On my 76 c20 350/turbo 350. I can not go above 30MPH or it gets jerky and tries to stall out. It did this the other day as well but not this bad. I barely made it home. Fuel pump? If so, what would this cost and where's it located. if not a fuel pump then what?

When you shut the truck off is there fuel dripping from under the truck under the front end? Thats what happened when my fuel pump went bad and it also did what you described. If it is not dripping out then it is probably just a filter or something. The fuel pump is located on the passenger side of the engine at the front toward the bottom. If it really is the pump and not just a filter then you can get a new pump for about $40

i had this problem on an old malibu years back and it was a severely clogged gas filter up at the carb.. funny thing was i had one further down the line that was fine

So if it is a clogged filter. What's the odds of it driving for the last 4 months no problems and it just suddenly starts 3-4 days ago? Of course I did fill it with gas from a can within the same time frame.......... Or maybe some "gunk" came loose from the bottom of the tank. I also dumped the reccomended amount of gas treatment in it not that long ago that might have knocked something loose.

Someone else mentioned bad gas, but for the cost of a fuel filter, you can find out. It sounds like most of us have had these symptoms from a clogged filter before. Good luck-

One more thing that might be relevant. Ever since I have the truck if you put the gas to the floor it would stall out.

Fuel filters are dirt cheap I would try that first. Like stated above when my fuel pump went bad it was leaking gas from up on the passenger side where its located at.

I drove my 77 long bed to town (30 miles ), went to eat ( 10 miles ) , stopped by a friends shopand commented on how reliable the truck was to one of his customers . Started it up and made it maybe one mile when it died . Started back up and almost did not make it back to his shop . Two dollar fuel filter in the carb totally plugged . replaced it and havent had a single prob since . Change your fuel filter first . Frank

Did the gas can have any water in it? I have had that problem before from water, add some heat or other alcohol to it and see if that works if the filter doesn't. One more thing, a bad fuel pump doesn't have to drip gas outside the engine. Pull the dipstick and see if it is pumping gas into the oil.

I'd have to agree with the general consensus and say that it's probably just a fuel filter.

I took my Silverado into the shop to get an exhaust welded in and it ran fine for the 20 miles there. When I got it back two days later it barely made it home. It would be driving along fine and then just start sputtering and cut out then start running again. But for the $1.99 a fuel filter is, it wouldn't hurt to change it anyway.

my 454 east fuels filters, i will collapse them so they dont work.. so it makes it so they seem plugged.. i can go througha couple a year...i had to go to a smaller filter because the one called for, will collapse,,,,
