Just wanted to know how many of you guys put the parking brake back on our trucks, or if any, is it a bad idea not to put it back on?

Re: Parking Brake Cable?

its a good idea to have a properly operating emergancy brake //most states that have inspections require that it be installed and working to pass safty inspection// also required to properly make a bootleggers turn

Re: Parking Brake Cable?

Where can I find a good schematic on how the cables run to all the wheels? My 67 came with the handle but no cables.

Gus67,

Here's 2 pages out of my 69 Service Manual. Hope they help.

Good Luck.

Re: Parking Brake Cable?

I always make sure mine work, but then I am pretty anal in making sure my truck would pass an inspection if it is ever given one. It could also be a liability issue because if something were ever to happen because you didnt have it applied and your insurance company found out you removed "safety equipment", they could wash their hands of you, and you could find yourself holding a pretty nasty bag of issues.

Just my thoughts.

Re: Parking Brake Cable?

Over here in Germany if you think you can make it through the inspection without them, donīt even go.
Mine work fine and will stop the truck from moving.
I usually just put the truck in Park if it is on a level surface but if I am on a hill, I always set the brake.
I would hate to see all my hard work go driving down a hill without me sitting in it.
