1970 Chevy Pictures & Story
Well I have been a member of this forum for a while now and I thought it was about time that I share with you pictures of my 1970 Chevy. I bought this truck when I was 5 years old for $500, from Shrum Chevrolet in Glenns Ferry, ID. It was a basket case with the entire drivers side crushed from front to back. With the help of my father we striped it down to the frame and got it rebuilt and painted by the summer I turned 17. 11 years now it has been my one and only daily driver, Because of this it is not in the shape it use to be but I have no regrets and have never had a car payment. I will take some more pictures of the interior and Engine bay and post them up also.

It has a built 327 w/ 202 fuely heads, crane cam, decked, balanced, blue-printed, HEI, Edelbrock Air gap, Edelbrock carb. Head-man headers. It has a NV3500 5-speed trany out of a 94 chevy truck and a posi rear-end, electrical fan (thanks faq), Otima battery, 140 amp aternator,under hood light.
CPP - 2.5” Drop spindles, 1” front drop springs, 4” back drop springs, heavy sway bars front and back, drop shocks, shock relocation kit, 6-lug disc brakes, adj. track bar. Power brakes, power steering. Power windows w/ one push up and down relay, power locks, keyless entry, remote windows down & automatic roll up when locked, alarm system, remote start (fuses taken out),delay wipers (thanks Putter faq), Camaro Tach (thanks Gringo loco faq), vacuum gauge, Buddy bucket seats w/ 90’s chevy cloth, Infinity 10” subs, clarion deck, Rockford mids. 90’s chevy in cab hood pop (thanks Putter faq), H4 headlights w/ relays, Pull out cup holders in ash tray, And soon be finished vintage air with custom shaved fire wall. Shaved marker lights and trim, shaved post holes, shaved cab light, shaved tail gate lettering, shaved hood emblem,bed cover, blazer tank w/ cool cap, hidden hitch, low profile diamond plate tool box. And more.

Longhorn Man the color is off of a 90 chevy along with the apolstery. It was called Garnett red I can get the paint code if you would like.

I would like to get a hard lid bed cover, run my exhaust up higher w/ shorter headers, put a factory radio back in that is I-pod compatible, install a original tach, find some nice slot wheels, Do a 6.0l motor swap, Finish my shaved fire wall,finish painting and install origianl non-auto tilt column, factory brake,clutch, and gas pads, rear disc brakes, and on and on and on. That is what I love about these trucks, they are never finished. I will post some saved pictures of these wants. I have spent the majority of my life working on the same truck and I can't imagine getting tired of it ever.

My dad was (is) the best. We had a family farm and it was funny, the time we got paid was if we needed to buy something. So if i needed school clothes, instead of buying them for me he would pay me for working so that I could buy them on my own. It was the same thing with this truck. I didn’t realize it at the time but I do now, he was teaching me how to budget and use my money in a wise manor. He could have just bought me my clothes and things it would have been the same amount of money out of his pocket. I am glad he took the time to think about how he wanted to raise us; it is something I am trying to do with my son. After I got the truck and to this day all I ask for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions is parts or money to save for my truck or tools. It took me the last 3 years of Christmases and b-days to save up for my A/C system. It may look like I have a lot of money in the truck but as my dad said you have either have time or money and time has been on my side with this project. Then when I was 13 he got into the Auto Parts Business. His store was an old F*#D dealership so I had access to a lift not to mention a good discount on parts. Man I wish he still had that store. I would go with him to auctions of parts house that went out of business and I got a lot of things that way. Being in farm country, I also started to pull home any 67-72 trucks I could find that no one wanted for parts.

coggonobrien Backs are 285 70 R15 - Fronts are 255 70 R15 67_C-30 I always told myself that after I get nice rims and get rid of these wagon wheels that I would post. But instead of wheels I opted for A/C as a better addition for me right now. My wife loves the truck but not when it gets to hot. And with the price of good rims and tires it will take a good couple more years before I get to do that upgrade. So I said what the heck I have been driving it with these rims for over 10 years now so what’s the big deal of posting it with them. I have a set of slots that I bought from a guy through a friend that put me back $150. They were promised to be 15"X8", matching set and no gouges. I had to buy them sight unseen (bad Idea) they turned out to be 7" and only two of them a match and nice. The other two had different backspacing and hub hole sizes not to mention gouges that were too deep to blend. Well I learned my lesson. That leads me to a question, would 7" rims look good with my front tire size? If so I guess I would just have to find two 8" or 10" rear rims that match.

What a great truck and greast story to go with it. I haven't had a car or truck payment since 1982 so I also enjoy that. I drive my 70 everyday but it isn't as nice as yours....yet....well done!

When I hit a good size bump going 45 and up some times I hear my front tire scrape my driver side wheel well. It doesn't happen very often at all and when it happens it is only for a split second. There is no rubbing on turns. Do you want me to measure any clearances for you? Or take any close up pics of the tires and suspension, I can. I know you can go lower in the back because I have pretty much maxed her out on some dump trips and there was no tire clearance issues just too weak of drop spring issues. In fact in those pictures I have about 150 lbs of angle and grate material to make my window well covers for my house. So the rear is down an extra inch I think. I kind of wish I would have taken it down another inch all around but i was not wanting to cut the c-notches into my frame. If i do I will just use some lowering blocks in the back or air bags and cut down my coil in front.
Do you guys think should I lower it more?

I would definately love some measurements. no hurry on them so just when you have time. do the front tires sit out wider than the rears? just appears that way so if I could change the offset to bring them in and do the full 4/6 or 5/6 drop that would be ideal for me. thanks for the help i appreciate it!!!
