Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

My red '69 C-10 has Saddle listed on the SPID but doesn't specify if it is interior or exterior. My interior is black, and I know the truck came a gold color. The interior could have been changed at some point, but if it was, they did it right because the dash, belts, visors, and vinyl door panels are all factory black pieces. None of the stuff is reproduction. If saddle in fact the interior color though, what color would the exterior have been? Does anyone have a color chart or list that shows all the factory colors in '69? TIA!

BTW, the best I can tell, the code is 4525AA. Its weather checked and hard to read.

Re: Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

From what I've been able to tell from my truck and others, is all your interior cab metal (except door panels) would have been the gold body color, and the saddle refers to the trim, such as dash pad, arm rests, door panels, seat belts, seat, sun visors, steering wheel and column. GM used 2 different shades of brown, a darker brown, and a more tan-like lighter brown. If you follow the link in my sig and look at the older picks of my truck, the dash pad is the lighter brown.

Maybe others can tell you wether saddle was the lighter or darker brown trim.

Re: Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

Tim,

It is on the right side of the SPID.

Oldgold,

That looks like the color mine came. I can see it on a few spots on the interior that the red chipped off, but it looks like that shade.

Re: Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

That would be medium gold iridescent, and if it was a single tone color, the code should be 526 plus the extra characters on your SPID. It is a real pretty color.

Re: Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

I found this chart, but the saddle appears darker than mine. Of course old scanned color chafts probably aren't the most accurate because none of colors look right.

Re: Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

I just found this. This color looks like the color I see on mine. I imagine this is close to what mine would have looked like new, since it is a SWB with the body side trim.

Can you post pictures of your SPID?
That's a nice looking gold truck. Were there any interior shots?

Yes, I will try to get some tomorrow, it is really to read, so I imagine it wioll even harder to see in a pic. I'll try though.

Those are the only 2 pics I found of the gold truck. I can't even remember now if I found it searching Google images or Metacrawler images. I found your's on all of them!

If it helps, here is the R&M chip sheet for 1970. I don't know how much colors & codes changed from year to year.

Re: Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

It looks like from the charts I've seen, that the medium gold irridescent didn't start until 1970. The only gold color I can find for '69 is the saddle, so maybe that is it.

What color is listed for the vinyl? It sounds like you have your answer,it`s the paint.
On interiors:Light Brown/Tan=Sandlewood and darker Brown=Saddle

That's the funny thing is that there is no listing for the vinyl. I can't get a good pic of it, but SPID lists on Left:

Body Side Moulding
M49 Turbo Hydra
Radio Push Button
Cust Comf&Conv Equi

On the right:
Body Side Molding - W
Auxiliary Springs EQ
Power Steering
Chrome Bumper FR&RR
Saddle

Re: Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

Holy Crap!!! That SPID plate is wiped out!

The whole left-side/right side of the SPID has no bearing on wether it referes to body or trim color. Body color will just have the paint name, trim color will say the color followed by "vinyl trim" or "vinyl cust trm", etc.
My bet would be, if you could read it, would be a saddle truck with black trim, seeing that the trim he's got all appears to be factory, and saddle is the only gold colored paint for that year.

Does anyone know (Longhornman, maybe?) if black trim was "standard" if no trim colored was specified?

That's kinda what I thinking too since every other truck I have has the color of the vinyl trim listed. Incidentally, the '69 is the only truck I have with a black interior, so I have nothing to comapre it to.

Oddly enough, the SPID in my '69 C-30 ramp truck is the same way. Even more odd, is that it came the same color gold as the C-10. None of my other trucks, including both my '69 C-10 beater truck nor a '69 CST parts truck have the SPIDs deteriorated so badly.

It is very suprising how hit-or-miss SPID labels can survive sometimes.

BTW, have you found a build sheet in the red 69? Or any? That would surly answer some Q's......

That's where I've always heard they were.

Re: Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

I`ve always seen black vinyl listed as an option. The only trucks I`ve seen with no mention of interior color were base trucks with the interior the same color as the paint...basically.Like a dark blue`72 with a blue interior or a green interior (not Olive) in a green truck.I wonder if your interior was swapped when it was painted.

Re: Question about "Saddle" on my SPID

I can't read my 69's from the picture clearly, but the last thing on the right of both of my trucks referred to the exterior color. The 69 was white/saddle exterior. The 70 lists the black on the SPID. I cannot remember what the 69 said for the interior./trim as It was black and rust (mostly) when I got it .

That must be something then that varied by factory/assembly line worker. the12catlady's 1970 c/10 has all the interior trim in a blue color that is almost matches the shade of the medium blue iridescent paint perfectly. Yet the trim color is listed on the SPID. The truck is from the St. Louis plant. It is too bad 67_c-30's SPID is so weathered.

67_c-30, is your seat upholstery OE? Is it black? If you have had the dash pad off, does it look OE or repro?

No, the seat has been recovered. Even though the SPID is weathered, I can read everything, so its not a case of it being there and I just can't see it. Just thought I'd clarify that. Its the only truck I have that doesn't have the vinyl trim listed (I checked all of them today).

OK, I kinda figured that, but wasn't 100%.

Maybe they forgot to type trim color in then? Or it was standard with that color and not listed? That's all I can think of.
