A/C Identification
I was surprised i couldnt find this through a search...but i was wondering how and through looking at what can i identify whether my A/C on my 87 is R12 or R134. The compressor wiring was a little flawed so i fixed it today, but even with the compressor running, the air remains at the same temperature as when the lever is on vent...any ideas?

brad do a google image search for the fittings for 134A refrigerant
it is distinctive about 1/2 inch round usually the caps are red for the high side and blue for low side r-12 refrigerant ports look like your tire valve Mark |

Ah, thats what i thought. The valve looks like ore of a air hose connector, not the tire valve style. THe problem is mine only has one cap, lol, and its on the bottom line, and its red. I assume they lost the other...thanks

It sounds like some one before you converted it to 134/a and lost the low side fitting. You can pick one up at your local part store.

Well the fitting is their, well by fitting do u mean the cap or the "nozzle", and i was guessing and hoping that someone had converted it...

well I miss read your second post. You do have the 134/a fitting sounds like. But the dust cap is gone. You can buy one of them at the parts store also. By the way are you sure that the comp. clutch is kicked in, if it is not it is posible you are just low of refrigerant. You can by pass the low press. switch to make the comp. run. If you do that and there is no funning sounds comming from it you might put a can of 134/a in it to see what happins.

There was actually a wiring problem with that one green wire that goes into the cab that i fixed, and now the compressor clutch engages adn there is 12 volts ont eh green wire over by the whatever u call it, condesor maybe? On the passangers side...im goin to ask a guy at work to put in a can of r134 cause hes got the gauges and stuff and we'll see what happens...thanks again
