Used the junk yard dog today!

As some you guys might remember I pulled in the Junk Yard Dog, a ragged ol '69 GMC C3500 dump truck, back in Jan. Thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=276341 The PO used it at his junkyard and was going to crush because he upgraded, so I saved it. I brought it home, pulled it off the ramp truck, and haven't touched it. I had a bunch of limbs, bushes and junk I have been cleaning up, so I threw a battery it and loaded it up. A friend about a mile down the road has some land he trying to fill up, so I made 2 trips over there today. This thing is uglier than pootin' in church, but it gets the job done! The old V6 is a hoss. I guess I'm gonna put a better cab and a '71 GMC front clip on that I have. As bad as it looks, its just too good of a truck to junk out.

This truck a Dana No Spin rearend listed on the SPID, and I found out today it works well. It was quite an adventure driving it with no doors or windshield (I knocked the rest of broken rear glass before I drove it!)

Good to see an old work-horse in action.

Looks like a good candidate for some upgrading.

Hey, I think I saw that truck in that wierdo movie Maximum Overdrive didn't I? It looks familiar...
It is fun waking up an old truck that's been sitting for years.

Man, I'd love to have that truck over here... Need to do some rock and dirt hauling.

I picture that sucker sandblasted, painted and fixed up. Sho would look good.

I need one when I go to the scrap yard to save my trailer. I bet I know of a blue cab that might fit the bill.

That's actually what I'm thinking too. You can't see the back of the cab when the dump bed is down.

The dump bed looks real solid on that. Most I have seen are beat beyond recognition.

Actually, all the wheels were like that, but several of the tires were flat, so I put on some 4 hole 17.5's I have. They are the factory 18" 8 hole split wheels. They are listed on the SPID as 18X5's, and it actually lists a spare.

Re: Used the junk yard dog today!

ugly yes but I like it too! Now I want one of those....

Of course, we need the ole "That'll buff right out" and....

Any corvette options on it? Perhaps the "speed holes" (less wind resistance).

Oh yeah, it definitely has lots of Corvette Options!!!

Seriously, it does have a lot of options that none of the trucks I've ever had do.

This was a cab and chassis truck, but lists a WHEEL CARRIER on the SPID and none of my other 1 tons have that. It also has HD VALVE which I'm not sure what this means. I know the bigger GMC V6's had sodium filled exhaust valves standard, so maybe this has that option. It has NO SPIN REAR AXLE 5 listed, but I don't know what the 5 means unless it is denoting 5-series gears (which I think it has since it came with 18" wheels). It has HEAVY DUTY CLUTCH listed as well, which is something I've never seen also. It lists the 7.00-18 FRT & DR tires, and an 18X5 SPARE WHL. It also has SPECIAL PAINT LISTED. The most puzzling thing is that it listed as CM3600V, but the truck has regular 3500 emblems. Maybe they all did, but I've never had a GMC 1 ton. I am curious about though.

I don't know, they are a little hard to come by. The bad thing about them is that 1) they are split wheels, and 2) tires this size are no longer available. They are plenty of 18" tires out there, but these are really tall and narrow. They are only a 5" rim, and they are almost 34" tall. Despite the negatives, they look really cool. Here's a better pic of one on a primed '67 C-30.
