So I had purchased some of the Dynomax Chevelle shorty headers a few years ago at the recommendation of some on this board. My truck is bagged, and I don't want the exhaust hanging below the frame. Well, I went to bolt up the headers and they hit on the PS motor mount and frame. After some more reading I realized that people w/the '67/'68 trucks have this issue. I know of one person that is running shorty headers on his '67, but he hasn't been on the board in a bit. So my question is, what shorty headers are you guys w/a '67 or '68 truck using? Oh ya, it's a V8....

SBC or BBC? I know on the 67-8's the frame needs trimmed on the top rail to clear the headers. If it is a BBC you need the correct 67-71 mounts to get everything in there, if it is a SBC I am curious? Picts?

I'm running Sanderson headers in my 68 with a small block. No issues at all, very nice header. Early Classic sells a Sanderson set, coated, and a bit cheaper than you can buy them from Sanderson.

They clear the top rail, cool? I have had to trim the rail on every one of my 67-8 with headers as it seems most headers are made to fit the 69-72 but are listed as 67-72. Any picts? BTW are they shorties or full length?

It's a SBC. Don't have pics cuz I've already boxed the headers back up.

Thx for the heads up Fastom. Since those are mid-length headers, do you have any pics of how low they hang?

I seriously got tired of trying headers for mine and ended up with old corvette rams horn manifolds and where the exhaust tube drops out, I took it immediately to the outside of the frame rails and down the outside into the mufflers just behind the cab and dumped down before the axle. Now my exhaust cannot be seen from the side and no where does it hang below the cab or frame, allowing me to go lower.

Any spark plug issues? Can You run a standard length plug or do yuo have to use a shorty?

Not a single issue! Standard plugs.

Don't make the mistake I made with these headers, don't use gaskets. I had to take them back off and use only black RTV.

You don't happen to have a pic of the other side do ya? Looks like you were using copper gaskets, I'm surprised they didn't work. Edit: Just read they have a "leak free" flange. Interesting... Oh and the pic on ECE's website is different from your headers. I wonder which is the "new" style?

BTW, nice job on that engine, looks great!

I'm running a GM ZZ383. This engine has the Fastburn heads. I ordered headers from Sanderson for the heads, angle plugs, and "D" ports.

thanks Shane....i'll look into those. Looking to change out my Hedmans.....Would those be for 64/72 Chevelle??

I run Flowtech headers I bought from Summit Racing. Flowtech 31500FLT These are ceramic coated, full length, 1 5/8 with 3 inch collectors, and I did NOT have to cut the top rail on either side. It evens fits where my Z bar goes across. I use standard plugs but I had to modify a 5/8 socket to fit #7 plug.

I called Summit and they told me these have the 1.5" primaries like the shorty Chevelle headers that Riveted1 has. That's probably why these are fitting so well. It looks like the only shorty header with the bigger 1 5/8" tubes that will fit with no mods is the Sandersons by ECE. I need headers bad!
