They didn,t use one tlll a few years later. Then it was on the top of the clutch pedal. The backup light switch was on the side of the trans. tower. It was not on the real early models.

Re: Where is the neutral saftey switch on a SM 465?
I personally find a lot of these 'safety items' to just make the general public that much stupider.
Wehen your grandfather was learning to drive, he was taught to always... ALWAYS depress the clutch pedal to the floor before hitting the ignition switch. Is that so hard? Now there's a generation of people that if it wasnt for the switch, they would do lots of damage. Like my response to my boss when he saw my throwing my NSS away after doing a van tilt conversion. He asked me, "what if you start it in gear?" I simply tell him I'd get what I deserve, for shutting it off in gear, and leaving it that way." |

I grew up learning how to drive a stick that is not the problem, it is just one of the steps in my Ron Francis wiring kit and i figure if it was there Iwould put it in just incase I sell it or something

olds guy, I didn't aim that at you....but rather to society in general. It all falls under the "it's not my fault" mentality.

Re: Where is the neutral saftey switch on a SM 465?
The 465s from this era have a backup light switch, and a lot of them have a high gear indicator switch for the TCS system. Definitely no neutral safety, and I don't think a switch was ever used on the tranny for this - it worked off the clutch pedal as noted above (but this was not used in the '67 - '72 era).

Re: Where is the neutral saftey switch on a SM 465?
The first truck I noticed it in was an`80.I think my`78 had one. Those trucks had the later SM435.But,as mentioned,it`s a switch activated off the pedal arm.I disconnected mine, just like I do headlight and seatbelt buzzers.I feel I know what I`m doing when in the driver`s seat.Silly, huh?

Re: Where is the neutral saftey switch on a SM 465?
Re: safety switches and other assorted safety features on our vehicles and all of our lives. Some are good others are overkill. We have become accustomed to being protected to the point where nothing is our fault and lawyers love to jump on anything they can pin on someone else.
Lets say you disconnect or leave the safety switch out of your vehicle and happen to sell your truck. And lets say they start it in "drive" and cause major damage to someone else or themselves. A lawyer will jump on this like fleas on a farm dog. All I'm saying is be careful and don't assume that everyone out there is knowledgeable. |
