Wink Louisville Streed Rod Meet WOW!!

Well I happened to be in Louisville this past week and the National Street Rod Meet was being held. What a treat! I sat outside the hotel Wed. night chewing the fat with street rodders. I wasn't planning on going to the fair grounds but my morning meeting was changed to late afternoon so I decided to pay the fairgrounds a visit. All I can say is WOW!! I was on overload. 12-14000 cars and trucks!! Lots of neat stuff. I visited the Cragar booth...they are changing to direct drill so by Nov. or Dec. the wheels will be direct bolt and not unilug fo our trucks. I looked for a 67-72 Street Rod shirt with no luck. I asked one vendor if they had any 67-72 truck shirts and they said no. The answer they gave was, "these trucks are not very popular yet" Interesting? But to be fair the street rod years ends in 1948. Found a great place in Piqua Ohio for doing ceramic coatings for headers. About $150 and if you have rusted chrome headers than about $200. I think 396BB told me about this place. I found to my surprise 3 bar spinners for my ralleys for $25. I saw one very nice 72 C10 SWB in the conference hall. Well thats enough. Just a great experience as this was my first Major Street Rod meet that I attended. What an experience. I made reservations for next year cause I just know that I have sales meetings scheduled that week.

Oopps! I promise next year that I will get pics. Problem is I would want to take pics of all the cars. That's going to be a lot of pictures.

Re: Louisville Streed Rod Meet WOW!!

This meet has been on my short list since its inception in '70 or '71. That first year, it was held in Peoria, IL.

Let's see, it's a nine-ten hour drive from home.....run the A/C.....oh, gotta buy gas, too.

Re: Louisville Streed Rod Meet WOW!!

I went there today and got a New windshield for my truck and a chrome oil pan for $125. Saw a 72 that look great in there. Walked all day and didnt even see half of the cars. Saw Warren (Huck) driving in the parking lot in his blazer

Re: Louisville Streed Rod Meet WOW!!

w/FRCvette It was very hot Friday. I didn't do much outside walking. I saw most of the stuff inside and then I sat on a chair by the steps outside and let the cars come to me. I made hotel reservations for next year. The 72 swb inside was a ten.

It was August 1970. I made it to that one with this car, a 1936 Ford 5 window coupe w/small block Chevy. It had six Stromberg 97's on it. Sorry about the low res picture. The color was actually Peach Pearl.

Wow! And to think I was still a gleam in my Father's eye in 1970!

Sounds like a helluva show! Eager for pics....
