Oil pan removal

I am attempting to remove the oil pan in the 68. it has a 327.
I thought I could remove the pan without raising the engine but have found that I cannot.
What is the secret and can it be down without dropping the transmission?

Re: Oil pan removal

I've done a 400 SBC in a 4x4 and a 402 BBC in a 2x4. Can't say it was fun. Changed the rear main seal in both. Lifted the motor and tranny just enough to clear the front crossmember.

Re: Oil pan removal

Yes, it can be done without dropping tranny. Like said above, just lift motor and tranny up then pull it out. Watch the timing chain cover when you pull it, they are sealed to each other.
