Lets see your stereo set up
I am not wanting to spend the money on relocating my gas tank and not sure how i should set up my system.
Im thinking about putting in 2 under the seat subs 2 6x9's in the door and some kick panel speakers but that will take me a while to get the money up for that but right now i have to 6x9's and im thinking about putting them under my seat for right now. Just give me some idea's by posting pictures of your set up. And my last question is will just 2 6x9's be enough sound to go over the engine and road noise? Thanks |

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
I've got two different setups in my trucks, but I can tell you that full range speakers under the seat will not sound very well. Subs might work under the seat but full range speakers will be like wearing ear plugs. I've got a couple nice Alpine 6x9's in the doors on one truck and it is plenty to drown out the motor noisy for me. Everybody will have differnent opinions on what sounds good. I'd say start with the doors and if you need more add them. Also I really love the new head units with usb. No more cd's to burn or go bad.

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
I used a pair of those 'under/behind the seat' style sub boxes in my 67 Retro-Rod back when it actually saw day-light. The only mod req'd was I had to remove the seat adjustment linkage under the seat. I didn't ever move the seat & that allowed them to fit so it was a cheap & easy option.
I removed the crappy subs that were in them & swapped in some much better quality mid~upper end subs that req'd very little air space for decent sound. This was much cheaper than relocating the gas tank & adding a big box behind the seat that would take up precious leg room. The doors were already cut for some 4" round speakers so the holes were opened up a little more & received some mid~upper end quality 6x9's for full range sound. I swapped the factory dash speaker for a custom/homemade bracket that held a pair of 4x6's (quality matched to the 6x9's). I had a Kenwood DIN style CD player & a large Kenwood amp that powered it all. The amp mounted to the cab floor between the boxes so you only saw the door speakers. It didn't look like much but sounded nice & out of sight = less temptation IMO. I also never did any sound quality improvements like Dynamat or insulation other than the OE rubber floor mat so that would only have made it better. No pics to offer since this was more than a 'few' years ago . . .....

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
I need a newer head unit so I can use a MP3 player with it.
Have a 400 watt amp hooked to the 2 10" subs and 3 ways under the seats. Have a 100 watt to the tweeters & 2 way in the dash. I had the tank removed before I did the speaker's but it didn't loose any leg room. Placed the passenger side tweeter where the clothes hanger was and did the same on drivers side. Built small box under drivers seat for one of two 3 way speakers. The other one just sits under the passenger side seat. Placed two 2 ways in the dash over the radio too.

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
I lost my photo hosting site and haven't set up a new account to show mine, but I mounted 4" separates in the door panel (NOT the door) of my '70. I mounted the crossovers on the kickpanels. I had a 4-3-2 channel amp bridged mono on the rear to drive a single free air 10 in an infinite baffle (just a box sitting on the carpet with an open back). Sounded GREAT and was completely out of the way. Amp was a Crossfire (great value) and speakers were all Kickers.

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
Don't have anything yet but I'm gonna keep it simple since it's just a W/E cruiser. A small dash speaker and an amp with an RCA/3.5mm wire to plug my I-POD into. I'll put in a radio delete plate and hide the amp.

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
I mounted some Boston 6 1/2" with some of those kick panal mounts they sell on LMC and such but what they dont tell you they dont fit quite perfect, I still have to trim just a little bit and tuck them in the door seal and 2 way tape em so they dont rattle. I also have two 3 1/2 Audio Art speakersin a custom made bracket above the radio. I`m just running an Alpine 2 knobber for now, but I`ll be mounting a din cd player in the glove box later and some low profile subs under the bench seat from an early 90`s chevy truck

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
My stereo is far from being impressive. But it's music. So hey.
It was a $100 Sony special from walmart, including stereo/headunit, 2 6's, and 2 6x9's. The 2 6's are in the stock position. and I boxed the 2 6x9's, and shoved 'em under the seat. I had to unbolt the seat, to get the box under it the seat frame rail, but once in, it fit nicely. It's not the greatest, but I have no gripes about it - the music is more than loud and clear enough that I can hear it over the road noise, motor noise, exhaust out the side, and open windows. -Sam.

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
jvc head, 6.5's in doors, 5X7's in rear cab corners behind seat, i took my 2 12's and 1000 watt amp combo out and put that in my civic so i have 1 12 there now and need an amp cuz the one for that got stolen. sound deadener everywhere, and sounds good. rattles the door lock/handle linkage still, and thats the only problem.

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
2 6x9's in the doors and a 12 sub under the driver side. Sounds great, you don't need a whole helluva lot to make some sound in these trucks. The trick is to tune everything right and play it loud!

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
Right now I just have a couple 6in in the doors. I am looking to add a sub under the seat and a amp there also. I do like that the original owner left the stock stereo in and placed the new one under the dash.

Re: Lets see your stereo set up
Well if you got the bench and a column shift a Center console made out of mdf could give you many ways to mount a head unit and speakers hide an amp/wires possibly even a small woofer.
my plans what i got (temporary speaker box)
