How do I reduce cab noise? Transfer case rattle in particular.
G'day kids,
So i have just gotten my chev home from the paint shop. I am still grinning from the drive home... I LURVE my chev. There are all sorts of bits missing that the paint shop promises me they will find as soon as possible - the carpet, the passenger side mirror, the gear stick knobs, some of the trim... the list goes on. I noticed though, without the carpet in, that my transfer case makes a terrible rattle noise. If I leave my hand on it it is slightly less but still ludicrously loud. Can I get rubber bushes to reduce the noise or will installing a centre console help? Is there anything else I can do? |

Theres a plastic bushing that goes on the pivot bolt for the shifter. A better fix that I used was an old bicycle inner tube. Cut a square of it big enough to wrap the bolt and small enough to get the shifter over. I used a little grease on it as well. Never had a rattle one from that in the 5 years I owned that 72 blazer. The rest of the truck rattled hummed and randomly banged though.
Afterthought: I may have used 2 large washers (1 on each side) to help keep the inner tube piece in there.
