In the path of Gustav

Hey folks.
This weekend, I was going to swap in the Eaton center section that I got from member UNCLE. The swap among other things has been put on hold because of Gustav.

I live just outside Orleans Parish in Metairie. The past couple of days, I was a little optimistic about the storm tracking a little more westward. Now it ain't look so good! Bob Breck, the local TV meteorologist I watch, looked worried on his 1:00 pm update, so now I'm more worried.
I'm not evacuating the area, like I did for Katrina (the 1st time I ever evacuated in my 58 years of living here).
Sunday afternoon, after boarding up my windows, I'm leaving everything including the truck and we're going to bunker down with my in-laws who live near by.

Good luck and best wishes to all the members living in South Louisiana and the nearby Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Re: In the path of Gustav

This could really suck. I have been making fuel all day just incase we got to go. Im not going to leave unless thet say its going to by a bullseye on Houston. You never know. Rita was supposed to hit us and turned east at the last. We got out on the roads then and it took us 24 hours to get to Dallas thats only 250 miles from here. Ontop of that my dog died of heat stroke. Very sad day. I would even say it was almost biblical IMO.
Good luck to all.

What sux is that some Oil Rigs are shutting down due to this storm.. That means that Gas prices will be going up again.

Living in Florida I feel for ALL who live around the coast line!!

Re: In the path of Gustav

It looks really ugly for the folks in LA/New Orleans. We are not looking so hot either on the Mississippi coastal counties either.

Hope everyone fares as well as we can. This look like it might be uglier than Katrina since so much is not there to slow down the surge.

I'll be staying because of work, but have a couple last minute outs that can be worked in.

Everyone take care please.

We're praying for ya!

For an idea of the size of this thing...

And the strength...

The further it gets into the gulf, the stronger it'll get. The warm waters feed it more strength. The gulf not only has hot 90 degree water on the surface, but it is hod town deep too. So the winds don't just stirr it up and turn over cool water... it stays hot, and just feeds it more and more.

Re: In the path of Gustav

Bill, If given the choice I probably would have made plans to leave, but sometimes you gotta do what you signed to do.

My area is pretty high (for down here) and not near any waterways so were pretty safe from the storm surge. The winds make you think but the lay out of the land in my neighborhood protects me from the wind from most directions, especially the south and east. My main worry is the tornado spin offs, and you folks in the midwest have to deal with those too.

Thanks for the thoughts Bill. In the words of one who is not so great, I'll be BACK.

In the words of one who is,

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

He has taken care of me and mine for a long time, as long as I listen, and he hasn't said run yet.

By now it would be way too late to even try. Now's the time to board up and be ready. Safer at home then stuck on a freeway. Back when Rita hit and folks were evac-ing the freeway my home was by, we were out handing out water, and servicing over heating cars. That's how slow traffic was on an 8 lane (4 on each side of the median) with the shoulders opened, all flowing outbound, were going.

Then again... Rita sorta did nothing to my area and we just got an inch or so of rain...
