How do I tell ratio on eatons

Theres a lot of 3/4 and one ton trucks with eatons in the local boneyard. How do I tell what the ratio is without tearing into one. Is there a code on the outside that will tell? Also is there a way to tell if they are limited slip or detroit locker without pulling the wheels? Any tag ? All of them have the wheels on them still.

Mike, There is a code stamped on the top right side of the front drop out unit itself. The code will have either 2 or 3 letters to start it out with. There are probly at least 50 different combinations of letters, and they are year specific. So without the letters or taking a book with you it would be hard to figure it out. The numbers are real tough to read also even with the best of circumstances. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
