If it's a V8 go to www.mortec.com . They tell you where to look, what to look for, and what it means. Far better than I can.

K = Ontario plant
09= September
12= 12th day

OPA = ? double check these letters as this suffix code does not exist...maybe CPA? Then it is either a '76 305 or an '80 267...

Also, double check 1AD408998 1= chevy, A = (this should be number indicating the year) D = Doraville assembly plant, 408998 = partial VIN to the original car...

Hope this helps. -Cort

Re: is this my engine code?

If its a Inline6 the guys at inliners.org are all over that stuff.

The numbers they had me pull for my inline6 where on the passenger side behind the distributor and near the motor mount.
