Electric fan
I want to install an electric fan in my '71 1/2 ton with a 383.
I recently installed a 12SI alt. that the rebuilder said should put out about 80 amps. Is there a good electric fan that will cool my truck in Texas heat? Will my 12SI work or will I have to upgrade the amperage so my other accessories will work? Also, I have planned an aluminum rad. too.. Thanks, James |

I believe Wes at Classic Heartbeat offers a good twin electric fan setup complete with shroud. Go to http://www.classicheartbeat.com/ for details, great service too, even to me over in the UK. My single electric fan came out of a junkyard (something Japanese!) and I rarely need to turn it on, in traffic mostly, but cold and wet Lancashire, sure isn't Texas as far as temperatures are concerned!
Can't help you on the alternator though.

Your fan may cool it fine, once you drop in the alum. radiator.
I had this problem on my Jeep project. We tried a bigger radiator with a perma-cool elec. fan. It continuously overheated. We dropped in a be-cool alum radiator and it ran much cooler, still not cool enough for me, so I swapped the fan to a FLEX-A-LITE'S 15" HEAVY DUTY BLACK MAGIC P# - FLX-475. Now that fan rocks! It pulls twice as much air as the perma-cool fan did.

I'm running a single electric fan from a 91 Lumina APV, along with the radiator from the van. I haven't had any heating problems with it, and I spend quite a bit of time idleing around the pasture in the summer shooting prairrie dogs.
