Radio

I'm installing an after market CD player in my truck and at the moment i don't have any speakers or any wiring in my truck. The factory wiring was eaten up pretty bad so I just pulled it out. My question is what all will i need to install this CD player? How much wire, sizes and what not.

Thanks in advance,

B.

Re: Radio

Depends on where your putting your speakers. I put two in each door and bought 2 20' rolls of speaker wire and had a bunch left over. I needed about 7'-8' of I forget what gauge wire, (maybe 10 or 12 gauge), for the power on my particular CD player.

Re: Radio

Well you need a positive and ground for the cd player, the wire for 12 volt switch(when you turn the key on) and positive and ground for each speaker, i know im forgetting something, but that should give you an idea

Re: Radio

You can support the rear of the deck with a small bracket. I use small metal strips with precut holes. For the life of me I can't remember what it's called exactly...

Re: Radio

You'll need 12V constant, 12V switch, ground, and speaker wire. The power/ground should be at least 14ga, but recommend 12ga. The speaker wire should be minimum of 18ga (usually comes with the speakers), but then again I would recommend 12ga as well. If you are using a cage, you could get away from using the back strap, but the back strap usually comes with the head unit if you want to use it. You can get away from using a switched power and wire the switched wire on the stereo together with the 12V constant and then you will have to manually turn on/off your stereo or remove the faceplate.

Good luck with the build and show some pics were you are done.
