Sway bars!

I'm considering changing to a bigger swaybar in the front and adding one in the back. What bars did ya'll buy and what size? Did you see a noticable difference in handling? I'm probably going to lower my truck at least 2"/4", so would adding a rear sway bar be a problem with a drop?

I've got the heavy duty C-20 factory bar on the front, and a Belltech bar on the rear. Truck is lowered with 3" drop control arms and a flip kit. It still feels a little soft cornering to me. I am sure the big block with 22 year old small block coil springs and worn out shocks up front is not helping. And I have the light duty spring pack in the rear.

I added a rear bar on my '85 and it was a night and day difference, I'll be adding one to my blazer soon too.

Got any pictures of the rear sway bar setup. I havent seen very many at all on these trucks.

hmm interesting, i have the front sway bar, but i too would like to see how rear bars are put in.

like 454HO my engine and mods are the same. I used a front sway bar off a 3/4 ton suburban it was night and day difference. I have been thinking of another pair of shocks on the front and a rear bar although withe back light as they are I am concerned of to much roll stiffness in the rear and causing the inside tire to lift in corners, anyone experienced this?

I would agree if you dont have enough compression and rebound in your suspension you will be lifting tires around heavy cornering. What that fine line is i couldnt tell you.

I am running Hellwig heavy duty bars on my 84. I upgraded many years ago and now I can corner far better than most trucks. Deinite difference adding the back bar to the mix.

yeah,that's a good idea.if you search there's been a bunch of them.rear bumpers and brackets is another one that could qualify for faq it comes up alot.that's up to the kimosabe's of this forum i guess?maybe they'll get time to review it.

I would think it would affect a stock or lifted truck more than a lowered truck.

My 87 silverado 2wd swb came with no sway bar from factory. I have been looking high and low for parts trucks in the local area with factory sway bars (including suburbans and 3/4 and 1 ton trucks). Have found nothing. Plus, I think it would be hard to remove the old sway bars with basic handtools in a dirt lot. I am going to buy an aftermarket from summit. I am hoping to see and improvement since the truck corners like crap now.

I think I will pass on the rear sway bar for now.
