Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
I just set the carpet on top of it. Did not glue the carpet to it. Might want to remove later on.

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
I did not use anything other than I also added "JUTE" on top of the dynomat then I just lay the carpet on top of both.....

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
Big Al's on it. The last one I did was just like his. Get the floorboards clean, vacuum, and then wipe with a degreaser, to make sure that the FATMAT has every chance in the world to stick. Put it down, and then install the carpet and jute like al describes. The noise reduction in the truck will be unbelievable!!

Jute is that string stuff that is kind of like burlap that is used for padding under the carpet

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
well guys i was thinking of using "EDEAD" instead of fatmat or dynamat. I heard that it was just as good and cheaper, some of it is 1 dollar per square foot. check it out and tell me what you all think of it.

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
fatmat is cheaper, and is because it is a bit thinner than Dynamat. I have used both with good results, and bought it on EBAY. about 50% cheaper than anywhere else. 36 sq feet of Dynamat covered my 67 chevelle. 100 sq. feet of fatmat covered a 71 Blazer, and had some left over.
JUTE is the gray stuff on top of BIG AL'S fatmat. it is 1/4 inch thick shreaded material, that was used on all of our stuff from the factory. If you go to your local auto upholstry shop and ask for some jute the will have it, and show it to you. I get the feeling that there are a few of us about the same age as dirt, and then there are the rest of you! ha ha Last edited by cparman; 10-20-2008 at 07:54 PM. Reason: typo |

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
Jute is the gray factory material that alot of the newer cars have in between the floor and the carpet. Being that I am in the auto business I called my trim shop and they gave me enough to do the whole cab and the back wall.

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
I'm not sure if it was on this site or not, but someone used some type of roofing material that is the smae material as Dynamat. They used whatever it was because you can get twice as much for half the price.
Anyone know what I'm tlaking about?

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
My understanding is that roof mastic has a tar base that stinks pretty bad when installed and the summer heats it up.

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
In place of "jute":.... go to a large carpet dealer; preferrably one that installs commercial carpet. A gray or tan underlayment is and was used in many applications. Ask for jute or felt industrial carpet underlayment.... I have gotten this for free when older, worn carpet is being removed from commercial usage.
The material is 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick and acts as soundproofing also.

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
No, just lay it on top of it. It does not move once the carpet and the seats are on top of it...

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
Thanks I forgot to mention the jute has an aluminum backing.... where should the aluminum side lay? ::::::> down on the aluminum sound deadener or up contacting the bottom of the carpet (jute side down on the deadener)...

Re: how to install carpet over sound deadener correctly
Mine did not have the aluminum sound deadener so I really would not know but if I had to guess I would say the aluminum facing down.
