E-Brake Help
I'm finishing up on my truck after 2 years and I just tore into the rear brakes. I took apart the drivers side and replaced what I needed to and moved on to the other side. When I got the drum off I noticed that the e-brake cable wasn't attached to anything. I take it I'm missing the e-brake lever in the drum? I would think that is suppose to be on both wheels? This is a picture of the drivers side brake showing what is missing.

Re: E-Brake Help
Your missing the crossbar and the spring. I think you can get both at the parts store

Re: E-Brake Help
Neither side had the cross bar or springs. Do those parts go on all drum brakes? As you can tell this is my first brake job. If it matters it's a 1971 3/4 4x4
Thanks jeff

Re: E-Brake Help
Good luck at the parts store, most likely the bar will be too small. I had to go the the salvage yard to find mine.

Re: E-Brake Help
yep,
The parts are too short at the part store. I will be running without a e-brake until the salvage yard god smile down on me. So I will be looking for 2 crossbars, springs and right side e-brake lever. It may take a while to find them around this area. Thanks for the drum brake 101.

Re: E-Brake Help
If I were you I would spring for a wheel cylinder rebuild kit as it looks like yours are leaking. I also always get a new spring kit (they are only about $3 per side). You might as well get it done right if it is apart anyway.

Re: E-Brake Help
Here's a diagram that might help with terminology. This is what your brakes should look like.

Re: E-Brake Help
Hey, I think I have all those parts you need and was about to set them out on the curb with the rest of the scrap steel. It appears you need 2 crossbars, the PS ebrake adjuster and the spring it rests on? Let me know and I'll clean it all up and send it to ya!

Re: E-Brake Help
Before you head to the parts store, you should know both the diameter of your drums and the width of the shoes.

Re: E-Brake Help
Good progress today. I got the brakes put back together (without the parking brake) this morning. My wife helped me bleed them out.
Then I worked on getting the truck started. I have worked on the truck for the past 2 years. Happy to say I got it started. Tomorrow I will try to take it for a drive around the farm.
