If it is a 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0 litre vortec motor, it is completely different than the old small blocks we are all familliar with. There isn't even a distributor on one, it has one coil per plug wires. The new Vortec motors are basically a iron version of the LS1/LS6 motors in the Corvette, Camaro, and Firebird. I read an article in Popular Hot Rodding a few years ago about upgrades about the LS1, and they showed a picture of the bellhousing on one. They said the bolt pattern was the same, but all the fastners were metric, and one extra bolt was added at the top. While i think that 1350 is a great deal for that motor, it would be a real bear to put in your truck.

Man I wish I could find something like that. The fuel injection is worth that even if you do not use the engine. I say go for it. If not let me know I would be interested in shipping it my way.

Which vortec is it? The 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0? Get the tranny too if you can, that will make it MUCH easier for you and OD to boot. Hell, make an offer for the whole truck so you can use the gas tank/pump too. Now you're talking VERY do-able. Check out www.ls1tech.com Awesome price, btw.

Full size Tahoe most likely will come with a 5.3 liter. Factory 320 HP, you could probably bump that up to around 350 with headers and dual exhaust, cold air intake and computer tuning. The heads should fit an early model block but not just any intake will fit the heads. As for the transmission it will still work in your 2 wd if I am not mistaken just remove the transfer case, install tailhousing. Gas mileage, fuel injection, overdrive, new engine.

Erm...the GenIII Vortec heads (the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0) will NOT fit an older smallblock. Not even close. The Vortecs that DO fit are the 5.7L (350) GenI Vortecs.

The fact that the donor is a 4WD and yours is a 2WD would complicate a full swap slightly...in that as far as I know, the 4WD tranny is not set up to bolt to a driveshaft. It will also almost guaranteed need some computer reprogramming, don't forget about that...that's relatively cheap to do when you consider how many things that takes care of (removing unused systems from the computer, bumping timing and fuel maps some, etc)

The 5.3L has 285HP. The 6.0 has between 300 and 345 depending on what it's out of. I think the 4.5 has 245 or 255. There's a bigger jump in torque than horsepower between the displacements.
