Disc brakes from a 87 burb
I just bought a 1987 Suburban 4x4 for next to nothin. I'm wondering if I can adapt the disc brake system, rear end(6 lug) and 700r4to my 69 C10 2wd that currently has 6 lug power drum brakes on it. What will I need to get this done?
I want drop spindles and the newer style tranny xmember. Would it be better to put the engine(tbi) and tranny(700r4) from the burban into the 69 or just the tranny. Any help would be great. Thanks ![]() |

Re: Disc brakes from a 87 burb
Your question is a bit confusing so let me see if I can break this down-
Donor- 1987 Suburban 4x4 Recipient- 69 C10 2wd Front brakes- You want to adapt the disc brake system to your drum brakes. Since your trying to swap 4wd to 2wd I don't see this as being a fit. You might be able to use some of the components, but not all. Rear end-(6 lug) It can be done, but unless you have a leaf spring rear you are going to need to swap all the mounting brackets. They are welded on, so it will require some fabrication skills. Transmission- You don't say what motor you currently have, but the 700r4 will bolt to any small block. I am not sure what is required to adapt the newer style tranny xmember. Would it be better to put the engine(tbi) and tranny(700r4) from the burban into the 69 or just the tranny? That depends on the condition of the motor and tranny. Id the TBI motor is low mileage, it's worth the swap. If you don't want the TBI then you can buy a carb intake for it as well. I want drop spindles- Your best bet is to buy a disc brake conversion from one of the many forum vendors. I "think" they offer a 6 lug conversion with drop spindles. You will need to verify that to be sure.

Again sorry for any confusion. I just hope I can use the parts for what I intended. If not, the bruban runs and drives great, just needs new paint and tires. It's lifted about 12 inches so It would cost me quite a bit to replace those 38's and I really don't need another project. Any help on adapting the burb parts to my 69 truck will be much apreciated. |
