Dead Coil??
I think I killed my coil. yesterday I "attempted" to install my factory tach cluster, but found that the tach was grounding out on the mounting cup. (the tach harness runs to the "ignition unfused" and the ground runs to the coil negative post)
question. can you kill a coil when grounded out??? by the way, I'm running the good old point ignition system.....

Re: Dead Coil??
You shouldn't have hurt the coil as it is actually grounded every time the points close. Unless it overheated to the point that it was damaged.
A lot of manuals have instructions on how to test a coil with an ohm meter. I have an ancient coil tester that actually works quite well to test the point style coils an is quite simple. You might find a shop that has something similar that they can test the coil with. |
