Side marker bulbs?

Can anyone tell if the small bulbs in the side marker/blinkers lights on the front fenders and on the bed should be dual filament or single. I thought they would need to be dual, as when the lights are on at night as running lights the second filament would be needed to blink brighter for turn signal use.
Also the bulbs and fittings in my side markers are the push in type the same used in the instrument panel.

Hope i've described this properly.

Thanks

Re: Side marker bulbs?

I think they are just a 194 single element bulb.

Re: Side marker bulbs?

Thanks 71stub, are your bulbs the same type as mine? the reason I ask is that the parts stores only seem to stock the metal cap twist in type for side markers.

Re: Side marker bulbs?

Single element but the fronts blink and the rear don't when turn signal is on. NAPA has them and Oriley's, Advance Auto.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Thanks Andy, but the prob I have is that i'm almost possitive that when I bought the truck the rears blinked. I'm sort of backed up on this as I had to replace my original US blinker relay when it gave up with a new relay here in the UK, and UK relays are designed to make a faster clicking sound to let the driver know that a bulb may be out or that there is a fault with the blinkers. And that is exactly what happened it worked fine, then one day the relay in the cab started clicking real fast when I put my turn signal on and the only lights not blinking were the rear marker lights.

Also they don't flash on Hazard.

Re: Side marker bulbs?

Take the back ones loose and see if the grounds are good. I have the 71 model deluxe and my back side markers have never flashed.

Re: Side marker bulbs?

The only rear side marker lights I've seen flash had been rewired to flash. I am 99.9% sure they didn't flash from the factory.

Re: Side marker bulbs?

They do not flash from the factory. My Dad had a 72 lwb Custom Deluxe new and uncle had a 72 Cheyenne new (brother has it now). Neither truck rear side lights blinked.

Re: Side marker bulbs?

This is correct, the rear side markers never flashed from the factory... not even required to by todays DOT standards.
The front, some of them flashed, some did not.
Your 4 ways not flashing... try swapping your two flashers around, one for the other. They are the same part number unit, so if swapping them fixes it, you know what you have to do.
And finally, for the original question, the above is 100% correct, single, not double. When the parking lights are on, and the side markers flash, it isn't brighter than running lights, it turns on and off.
194 bulbs are the correct number, in american cars they have been the norm since the late 60's in the inst pannel, and are still used today, but not as frequent as back then.
