Gary's S10
My Friend Gary was looking to buy one of those bolt on 6-link kits, and he was asking me my opinion. I'm not really a fan of the one he wanted, and I said I would build him a custom one for not much more. It caught his interest, and he came up with a lot of questions. He's rather picky, anal even, as am I. And I was able to talk him into letting me TIG weld most of the components and do some kind of cool stuff along the way. He's going to do the front himself, I am only in charge of the rear suspension.
So he brought the truck up yesterday around 3 or 4, and we put it in the shop and pulled the bed off. Today I began disassembly, and started the notches. Hoping to have it notched by the end of tomorrow. Heres a picture he took when it arrived. And today. pics edited due to indirect advertising wo vendor sub And I will be building a 5-link based around this. pics edited due to indirect advertising wo vendor sub

Re: Gary's S10
Well the rest will just be poly bushings. The one on the axle is the only one that needs to articulate very far.
Got the notches installed. pics edited due to indirect advertising wo vendor sub

Re: Gary's S10
Lol, thank you!
Boxed the rear frame and built a rear cross member for the lift bars and air tank. pics edited due to indirect advertising wo vendor sub Air tank will fit under the bed, and there is enough room to run the fittings behind the bumper or a roll pan and still work on them with the bed on.

Re: Gary's S10
A few reasons. One for looks, one for weight savings, and one for strength. Where the links mount I want the bolt hole to be thick, but I don't want to make the boxing plates out of 1/4" because its just too damn heavy. And he's paying for the "extra" stuff like that. So I get to have some fun with what I can do with tabs and stuff like that.

I hate to edit these posts.. the pictures need to not have logos and advertising on them, unless you have a vendor sub. Feel free to PM Josh with any questions

Re: Gary's S10
I put a name on my pictures to make sure that no one else claims them as their own. I am not trying to advertise, simply share a project. It's not a link to a website, just a "watermark" with my name so to speak. All of my pictures have that. If that is not okay here, that is fine with me, I just will not post any more pictures.

Re: Gary's S10
God forbid this website might miss the chance to capitalize on a simple project post.
I really used to like this website but it just keeps going down hill.

Re: Gary's S10
I am truly sorry that you feel that way 454_72_4X4
If that was true however, the site would be ridden with intrusive ads, and large fees to do anything. Unfortunately we do have fees to pay to keep the site running for everyone, and put countless hours in to do so. As far as the advertising rules, they are in effect for several reasons. The main one is to keep the fly by nights and bad deals at bay as much as we can. We have to keep the rules the same for everyone.. if we allow one person to advertise a business, be it through a watermark, signature etc.. then it is not fair to those whom are site supporting vendors. Twisted Minis I understand what a watermark is, and am sorry if it makes it where you do not wish to post pics. It is however advertising and you have to be a vendor to do so. |

Re: Gary's S10
I understand the rules, and I am not asking you to change them. I am just saying I do not want to remove my watermark, as it is the way I have posted pictures for about 2 years now, and do not feel a need to change it. I had issues in the past with people stealing my pictures and claiming them as their own, which is why I started doing that. I have no problems with the rules, it just means I won't be posting my build threads or tech articles here, as I have no need to become a vendor, since I have nothing to sell here.

Re: Gary's S10
I was hoping you would remove your watermark,... so I could follow your build. No one on this website is going to use your photos for anything other than to "enjoy" your build.
Josh and Liz do a great job running this site,... and without the rules this place would just be another lame forum. Twisted Minis,... I hope you have a change of heart. I was following the build everyday.

I hate to chime in, but this kinda talk pisses me off. And i am not trying to make enemies but....You could not be more Wrong....I know quite a few people on here on a Personal note, That bust their ass for this site..Its like a second job...Countless hours are spent.to keep everything running, and running smoothly and to keep 40,000 people happy would be a hard task for anyone....Rules are Rules.......Its simple....if you do not like how things are......LEAVE......

Re: Gary's S10
And that's exactly what will happen.... eventually...
Don't get me wrong, there's still an incredible amount of knowledge on the board, and I still enjoy alot of the threads. The builld threads are some of my favorites because I like lookin and learnin. But it just the fact that somebody, (not directing this at you personally Liz...I know you don't make the rules), always wants to put some money in their pocket if there happens to be even a chance somebody else might make some money. Classic example is the $ for the classified section. If the charge was for the entire website it would be different, but there's money changing hands in the classified section so "somebody" wants part of it. Some say 25 bucks a year is a good deal, which it may be, but I'm a member of probably 2 dozen or so of these boards. If they all charged 25 bucks a year...well, you do the math. I really didn't even notice the name on the pics until they were removed. And the best part of all. I'm not really into the lowered frame dragging useless trucks that I'm guessing this build would end up as, (?), but I still appreciate good quality craftsmanship and like to see the process and effort these guys put into building them. If the watermark isn't allowed, what about the username. Is there gonna be a charge for that next? Ya see what I'm getting at? Once it starts there is no end. Someday I'll finish my 72 with or without this board and that's all that really matters to me anyway. Edit away Liz. My apologies.

Re: Gary's S10
you can't please all the people all the time.
This site is very expensive to own, maintain, jicense and have hosted. There are taxes and fees and all kinds of jazz. To keep it up for one month costs more than some of our mortgages. Why should the owner drop that much out of pocket? He's already devoting 5 or more hrs a day toit... PLUS work. So if you can do all that, AND protect your 40,000 members, without charging a penny, with no pop up adds for bonor pills, without selling personal info, and without charging.... then by all means, go for it. |

Re: Gary's S10
454_72_4X4 I wish we had the money in our pockets you think we do for this This site is a "goldmine" if we slammed it with intrusive ads and charged site wide. If it was, our trucks would be show class, instead of projects in stages of being done. We would be driving vettes and escalades instead of a used yukon and chevy pickup. We would be living in a huge home, with enough room for the kids to have their own space and a huge shop out back... instead of a "starter" home with 3 bedrooms and no shop / garages.
I am in no way complaining, as we are happy and live just like every other "average" family. The thought that it is "someone else" lining their pockets is funny. Josh is my husband, he works full time and we have a family, we have bills and we have to pay them just like everyone else. The site costs more to maintain each month then our truck payments... I have no reason to edit your post, or argue your opinions. I just know how off base you are. Its not some unknown internet name your discussing.. its my family. Josh was against the site ever going subscription.. bad deals was the main reason it changed. As far as the rest, it would not be fair for many to profit off the site, while we struggled to pay the bills so the site could be free either. Anyway, your entitled to your feelings, as am I. Twisted minis, I am sorry your thread turned into this. I know of a few that want to help out to get you set up here. Please allow folks to help where they can. I was very impressed with your posts thus far, and hope you will stay around for a long time. |

Re: Gary's S10
I will miss this thread. There is some fine craftsmanship as well as ideas some of us may want to use. I don't know how many people on this site are from CA, if there were even two new customers that twisted minis could pick us as a result of this site I think the years membership would be well worth the expense. It would also be a tax write off. If we do not get to see anymore picks of this build, I will have no hard feelings against anyone. I understand rules are rules and business is business.

I know I'm allowed to post pictures now, I'm just unsure about it. Maybe when I get home tonight I will post everything.
