12 Bolt has got me Ticked.
Well as last week i had thrown My drive shaft burning out. I accepted that and it is at a local 18wheeler shop getting beefed up.. NOW for the new issue i looked at my rear end today and noticed a Good dent pointing outwards. After about 10 minutes of disbelief i ripped off the cover and wallaH my spider gears are sitting in the bottom of the diff. All this stuff is BRAND NEW!!i got it to where im gonna blame one in particular it seems to be broken perfect in 3 pieces, Ring and pinion are fine so im gonna shove a locker in now..
Quesion: whats the deal with C Clip Disconnects for installing a locker. Last time i was gonna put one in Advanced driveline said it would cost about a GRAND to put a locker in this sound right? or should i start looking for a 9"...

Re: 12 Bolt has got me Ticked.
12 bolt/tough dif=yes
12 bolt/indestructible=nope My buddy is running a spool in his 12 bolt truck & hates it. I suggest buying a good aftermarket unit unless its drag race only. |

9"rears are readily available and easily converted to these trucks or if you really want bullitproff google up mark williams he can build you up a really stout rear for a bit less than 10grand

Re: 12 Bolt has got me Ticked.
How about a semi-float 14 bolt? They are just about as strong as a dana 60.
GM used them in a lot of applications, 454SS, TrailblazerSS, some Z71's and light duty 2500 pickups. Alot of them were in 3/4 ton pickups of the eighties and 5 or 6 lug axles/drums/brakes can be found for them. They are big, with a 9.5 inch ring gear. Get one with an open driveline and install a Loc Rite in it. You can find Loc Rite's on sale occaisionally for around 200 bucks. I paid 135 dollars for my last 14 bolt SF at the local P&P. For less than 500 bucks if you handy you can have a tough rear axle. |

Re: 12 Bolt has got me Ticked.
You would be doing me a great favor if you could list any online vendor(s) of such pieces.

Re: 12 Bolt has got me Ticked.
Well im not sure about the vendors but generally ill just set small pieces like 1/4 of stock (Already drilled) on my arms place axle over them measure every wich way then tack up my pieces and build around it.
Around here its pretty common to do. but make them welds hot and deep.

Re: 12 Bolt has got me Ticked.
New axle saddles are available from several suspension vendors. Not expensive and I'd check with one of our board vendor first. I'm pretty sure ECE has them.
You can always torch off your old saddles and weld them to the new rear end.

Re: 12 Bolt has got me Ticked.
DTS (no I don"t work there) has a BOLT IN 9 inch/Dana or 12 bolt for our trucks complete or just housing and axles. They used a DTS rear on Project Copperhead, thats how I remembered. I think I am going to order one from them.
