The man is after me again - update.

Well, just an update for you all.

I took off the glasspacks, and put on a set of Thrush turbo's. Talk about a difference...yeahhh...

I'll get a sound clip up to compare eventually, but, it is quieter, and does have a decent sound when you get on it. So I'm pretty pleased. Now I just have to deal with a noisy lifter, but thats a whole 'nother story.

The County Deputy we know also came by today, and it barley got fired up, and simply said, "Ah, that'll work." He signed it and said he'd take it in himself.

So, the issue is resolved in full (aside from lifter tick).

Thanks again for all of your advice on the matter, I really appreciate it.

-Sam.

Re: The man is after me again - update.

Glad it turned out ok. Im hoping I don't get nailed for loud exhaust. I drove past a cop on my way to the exhaust shop with open headers, he didn't even look over

Does it have headers? A header leak sometimes sounds exactly like a noisy lifter...

Re: The man is after me again - update.

Corn -

Yes, it does.

Wow, I never even thought of that. Especially with hanging pipes and mocking everything up, it's very possible I tweaked the header and lost the seal.

I'll listen to it tomorrow with a stethoscope to see, unless there's another way to check?

Thanks again all.

Ha, around here I was running around with open headers for awhile in my 66. Cops don't bother us for that unless you have a ricer, then they throw the book at ya for loud exhaust.

Good enough, I,may have to go pick up a pair of the Thrush Turbos because I think I may be next in line for a loud pipes ticket if I drive past the wrong officer under load. I don't have cherry bombs but a bad case of severely burned out glass packs of unknown origin.

Re: The man is after me again - update.

I highly reccommend the Thrush turbos, and I'm a die hard glasspack fan. They're quiet enough, but still talk a little.

And on the note of the officer - yes, he could've been more leniant, and gotten off my case. But, the fact of the matter was, I was running an illegal muffler (glasspack). Atleast he didn't fine me, and only gave me a fix-it ticket. Because, let's face it. If it had been another verbal warning, I wouldn't of done a thing.

Although, the friend who marked me off, did say the officer who cited me wasn't the most pleasant of individuals. But, regardless.

I really like the sound of Thrush turbo mufflers. I do not like the fact that you have to replace them at least once a year though. Pretty thin & rust out fast...

I get what you're saying, but there are some of them that abuse their power. I've known 3 or 4 here in my town and the neighboring town that I went to school with that are pr*cks, plain and simple. I don't care what they do for a living, there are what they are. I had one of them give me a ticket a couple of years ago and he was grinning the whole time and just loving every minute of it. He even made a little crack about being a football player won't help me "have it made" now that we're not in high school. I told him "Hey brother, I don't make $10/hr. I'll go pay this little $180 ticket and keep on trucking." He got all pissed, and informed me that he'd "be watching me", and if I did anything in the slightest, I'd get more tickets. He was later fired from the force for harrassment of a several other people.

I respect the police and respect the officers, as long as they are worthy of respect. In the past when I been speeding or whatever and got caught, I sit there accept the ticket that I DESERVED.

Re: The man is after me again - update.

i know a few members on here that are ass holes... doesn't make all members on here like that.

Fact of the matter is though, even a power trip cop, is out there bustin his butt trying to make your town a safer place for you and your family. And, as you so politely pointed out to the officer that had you pulled over, they do it for very little money.

Re: The man is after me again - update.

i had this problem. the cop gave me a defective equipment ticket for loud exhaust and i went to court and fought it and won as it was not a leaking exhaust . from the mid 70's back there were no catyltic converter's and the noise level of these earlyer car's was louder than we have now. so legaly you can run any muffler as it has NO LEAK'S AND GO'S PAST THE LAST WINDOW THAT GO'S DOWN SO ON ARE TUCK'S RUN THEM PAST THE CAB ON A CAR PAST THE REAR END AND YOU ARE GOOD HERE IN VERMONT. i have glasspack's on three of my truck's and i love them oh yea with header's

Re: The man is after me again - update.

I think I would have gone down and had a DB meter to see what it was, Then play accordingly. If it was below the limit I would have raised the question on how it was deemed it was too loud. On the other hand if it was on the edge or over I would have replaced them.

What he did was ok too, I tend to disagree as how the cop singled him out to begin with. You have tons of Harley's with open exhaust because "loud pipes saves lives".

Re: The man is after me again - update.

I could've got it checked on a dB meter, but the fact of the matter is, is that glasspacks are illegal (apparently). So I saved myself the hassle and just got it over with.

Thanks for the compliment Bob. lol.

I'll post a soundclip in a few min, as i'll run out and start it up. O, and just a side note, the tick is the timing chain, says the stethoscope. So, needless to say, shes not getting drove anymore than necessary at the moment. haha.
