Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well I finally got some time to do some well needed sanding. I also went to the local PPG distributor Hi-Tec paint here in Anchorage and got 1 gallon of Copperhead metallic paint mixed up. The color itself only cost $305 but after buying a lot of other needed things the total went up to $500. Here's some pics of the paint and sanding.

Aaron, Member Akman360 came over to help sand...

Some extra bondo was needed on the firewall so better do it now before it gets painted!

Also filled all of the pinholes in the bondo with some spot putty...

Both sides need it.

Here's the can of color!!!!

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well over the last few days I've been working on sanding and priming up the truck quite a bit and the interior is ready to be painted. The exterior just needs some more sanding and it will be ready as well. It's all seam sealed up and ready to paint! Keep your hopes up that happens this weekend! Knowing me it won't but I can hope. Here's some last pictures before it gets painted.

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up, Painted!

The 69 got paint!!! It's just a few layers of base coat for tonight and tomorrow brings the clear coat! Then it will really shine. We painted the interior, inside roof, dash, firewall inside and out, inside back of cab, floor, and under side of the floor!! I'll be back tomorrow with pictures of the final product, hopefully...

Warning lots of pictures....
Some are blurred for some reason...

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

We clear coated up everything we painted with base coat yesterday and it looks awesome!

There's a few imperfections but its just in the floor and areas that get covered by the interior....

I'm not actually sure, I guess it was because the back and top weren't quite ready they still need a bit more sanding and also I was worried that there might be to much over spray that would be floating around and fall back down on areas already painted. I'm hoping that tomorrow I can tape off all the painted areas and sand the roof and back and get them painted as well.

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Good news, we finally got the outside of the cab painted up! Just needs some wet sanding and buffing...
Here's some pictures of it, the camera I used doesn't do it any justice:

I'm going to use what I have which is a 69-70 front clip, although I really like the way the 67 front clip looks too!

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well finally this week I got around to clearing out the front of the garage so that I could fit in the 69!
I untapped it a couple weeks ago and its been in the paint booth ever since but today I moved it up to the garage and started assembling some random stuff back into it. On Monday I took both the rear step side fenders to a reputable body shop because I just wasn't impressed with the way the Bondo had turned out on them so should be getting those back some time soon. In the mean time, I'll start putting the cab back together, work on cleaning up chassis parts, and the engine. By the way that engine I had talked about going to be rebuilt in earlier posts never got rebuilt....So time to find a new one, in the form of a fuel injected LS-series/Gen III Vortec engine/trans combo so stay turned for that!

Installed the sun visors...

Started to put on some fasteners

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well started the resembling process!

Sandblasted the ashtray...

Put in the cigarette lighter

Sandblasted, Painted and installed the outside air vents

Cleaned up the heater

Installed the cab mounts

Restored the heater vents, but probably need to just break down and buy some new ones

Also restored the heater fan...

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Just got an engine!!!
In the form of a 95 S-10 with a 5.3 V8 and 4l60e 2wd transmission installed in it!
The truck is a piece, but the engine is super nice and it's all set up and running/driving in the truck. It has the corvette intake manifold and complete corvette front belt setup. The engine was out of a 2002 Chevy truck.
I made a video of it so you guys could hear it run!
