Question on rebuilding a tilt column, is there a light for the gear indicator?
I am rebuilding a factory tilt column that I purchased locally a few months back. The question that I have is concerning the light for the shift indicator. When I removed the standard column, it had a lignt that ran from the instrument cluster down to the gear indicator on the column. I am not sure but it does not look like that same setup works or applies to the tilt column. Am I correct? Is there a light that runs to the factory tilt column or was there no lighting the gear indicator? Thanks for any answers and pics if you have any.

It is an actual bulb/socket setup. Witha weird green lense.

There should be a separate grey wire that is hooked to the light bulb and routes with the TS harness. The grey wire plugs into the fuse panel at the cluster feed location. With the grey wire plugged into the cluster feed the gear shift light is controlled by the dash light dimmer on the headlight switch.
Here is a picture of the labeled fuse panel for reference. Jim

Re: Question on rebuilding a tilt column, is there a light for the gear indicator?
Fantastic information. Thanks for the link petey-pablo. I bought the column used and it did not have that bulb or socket or wire there. So that leads to the next question, Is that setup available? I noticed in the thread you sent a link to that Classic had provided part numbers for the filter/bulb. Anyone know if they are availble? I typed in the pn and came up with nothing. If they are not available, anyone have suggestions on how to make something work?
Thanks much! |
