69 c20!

I have been on the Ray Lytle show from time to time here in Springfield IL. www.wcvs.com. So I go pick up one of the other cast members so he dont have to walk in the snow at 19 degrees. We are driving to the station and he says..hey I had a 69 chevy truck offered to me if I gave him my laptop. WHOA! wait a minute...you said 69 right? Yep. Who is it? He tells me its one of the other cast members. Ok so we get to the station...I pull him out of the studio to talk to him. He says yeah it a 69 C-20 with a manual..p/s p/b. I ask him what motor...he said his dad said that its a 396. I asked him...all you want is a laptop for it? Yeah i cant afford to drive it and I need a laptop. He will be here this afternoon with the truck. I will get pics guys. I am excited now!

Holy cow! Does the laptop need to work? Can it be used? I never saw that mentioned! Run to the pawn shop and throw down $100-$200 for one quick!

Its about a 1100.00 laptop. Nothing wrong with the laptop. The truck runs. Like I said he is bringing it over with his dad later to let me have the truck.

he said the bed had been redone and rhino liner sprayed in. The cab had a hole in the floor board near the door. We will see when they get here.

Re: 69 c20!

there was a change in plans. They cant do this till tomorrow or sunday. I went and got a look at the truck. The bed is nice. I am surprised. The doors...need a alittle attention to the rust at the bottows. The rockers and cab corner are in decent shape. Not a bad repair. Inner rocker left side need replaced. tailgate...i cant believe it is totaly straight. Un freaking believable! The 396...well it maybe a 396. From what I seen...it a big block. I havent seen the numbers yet. 4 speed...yes its that. Didnt get under it to see the number either. Over all the truck is decent. I am giving up a 1100.00 laptop for it.

Re: 69 c20!

Ok as promised...half the pics I took were fuzzy for some reason.

I dont know how it happened...but it has a decent steering wheel.

I got the whole story on the truck. It was the kids grandpa's he bought it new in 69. So when I get better pics of the rest of it i will post them.

I couldnt believe that the grille shell is in as good as shape as it is. It was a farm truck. Usually a farm truck has got the grille dented and knocked out.

Re: 69 c20!

I should have added. The bed has a wood floor. There is a bed liner in it. The sides of the bed is almost flawless.

The radio wasnt working till i got home with it. The fuse was blown. Driving this old truck how...well it having no p/s...it drove like it did. The clutch...well its needs one soon. the brake pedal is almost to the floor. The brakes might need to be bled. Over all it drove nice. I will work on it tomorrow.

I dont know yet, I did find more rust on the cab. Its in worse shape then I thought it was. Kicked the rock...and it was bondo...not kicking the otherside! I think I will drive it for the winter and see what its like in the spring. There is some surprising things about it...the steering is like p/s without having p/s...the radio works....the steering wheel is not messed out...the dash pad is perfect./...under the bed liner there is a wood floor...and sheet metal is almost perfect on the bed... the hood is perfect...no rust or bondo. The windshield no cracks or cloudiness around the edges. The roof is perfect...hasnt leaked and made the inside of the roof rusted out. pedal pads are all there. All the gauges work. It has a posi rear end. Radiator core support is perfect. Something I still cant believe since I have owned so many of these and they were all rusted below the battery. I know I will find out more about it tomorrow.

Re: 69 c20!

Nice looking truck for the dough. I was wondering if it still had the spid label? If not, did it have holes for motor emblems under the c/20 emblems?

Re: 69 c20!

You have been saying that you like my dually, and now you have the perfect platform for one. You can put dually drums on front (without changing the spindles or anything else) and there are several companies selling billet spacers to widen the wheeltrack of the rearend so you can bolt on the dual wheels. Cut down some stepper fenders and viola!! BTW, looks like you have 2 of those bumpers now!

The one bumper I got off was in bad shape from the back. This one has a spot on it that just a little bad. It could be fixed. I will get a better pic of this bumper and send it to you and you decide on it.
As far as one ton project...if I decide to part this thing...i will keep the frame. I wouldnt use the rear end....I would do what you did to yours. Get the newer rear end. I got the stepper fenders when I picked up that dark gold 69. I seem to be accumulating alot of parts now. May have to go into the 67-72 truck business!

I may just end up doing nothing but 69's! The last 5 trucks I have gotten...all have been 69's. Weird. Usually I am always ending up with the same body style but different years. It started out I really loved the look of the 71 - 72 grille. Now I am stuck on the 69 - 70 grille.

I forgot about the 72 I got from the junkyard for parts! Its in pieces all over my garage with the other 69.

I got into looking at the cab further. Its in alot worse shape then I thought it was. There is no saving this cab. here is some pics of the severely advanced cancer.

Re: 69 c20!

So what I am seeing is me having more parts. I will yank the bed...replace the wood in the bottom of the bed and replace the tailgate. Got a couple of dents...that it.
