Help with Paint Suppliers - Green 505

My paint guy says the local NAPA store cannot supply (I presume that means get the proper "ingredients") for Dark Green 505 - 1972 Chevrolet. What other sources could I seek out (e.g. national chain store)? What other colors are close? Thoughts on Woodland Green (paint code?) ?

Try PPG, Nason & DuPont.

Chip Charts can mix the correct color for you. Here is a link if you want to check them out.

Re: Help with Paint Suppliers - Green 505

I purchased my 505 green acrylic enamel from a Dupont jobber and I purchased the bc/cc (Ultra 7000 system) from Sherwin-Williams. They had to color-match the base, but it was near perfect with the acrylic.

Re: Help with Paint Suppliers - Green 505

You'll find that most paint mfrs. won't have older vehicle colors in their premium line BC/CC lines. Typically those colors will only be found in their SS (single stage) lines of paint.

Reason being is that they hand match all available colors for their premium line BC's which as you can imagine is very time consuming and tailored to the collision repair industry where most damaged vehicles are late models.

If you can't find a mix for your color, chances are you can get pretty close via a color book or using a color gun if you have a good sample of the original color to test from.

If you do have a custom color mixed to match, make sure you get the formula from your paint supplier because if you use all of it, it will be alot easier to match later if you should need more color.

Re: Help with Paint Suppliers - Green 505

I ended up taking a fender in to my paint shop so they could color match it. Even though my color shows up in the paint chips they did not have a formula in their system.
I know this may not help but it is my experience in the last few months.
Good Luck
