Numbers On Your Title

What's listed as your VIN on your title?
Is it the original motor number or is it the body number found on the tag on the drivers door post?

I'm trying to title my truck & I want to make sure I use the correct numbers.

Thanks,

Scott

I'd imagine that would have varied by state. Mine shows the original motor number. If that's not in it any longer I'd explain that to the DMV and see what they tell you to do. If they have to leave it with that showing, you always have the option of getting one of the blank VIN tags from Classic Parts (old Chevy Duty) and have it stamped so it matches your title.

Re: Numbers On Your Title

Vin numbers are on the front door pillar. Its a silver plate about 3/4 x 3
Should start with a letter and then a 5x such as A59XXXXX. what they put on the title depend on the state. Some use a frame number some use a block number.

Re: Numbers On Your Title

On my 59, which is original cab and frame, the number on the drivers cab hinge jamb is also stamped on the top of the frame next to the steering box and under the cab on the drivers side. At one time I was going to put on another cab, in Idaho you take the finished truck down to DMV and they decide, usually it is the number on the frame, and they install a new tag on the door jamb with the same number. If all numbers are gone, they assign a VIN and issue a new tag like it was a hot rod. It is licensed to the year of the sheetmetal so you can have say a 59 on a tube chassis with new suspension, LT1 engine, etc. and it will still be a titled as a 59.

Re: Numbers On Your Title

Just bought mine last week and was confused that the title did not match the number on the door pillar. The number on the pillar works in all the VIN decoders online, so I was a bit concerned until I found that the engine number was used to title the vehicle....here in nebraska at least.
