1 ton axle swap questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My 1970 is finally going to get paint on it, so I'm getting my parts together so I can get to work on it when it gets home.

I have a Dana 60 and a 14BFF out of a 1986 Chevy 1 ton, flat bed, single wheel truck. The Dana 60 measures 32" from spring perch to spring perch. The 14BFF measures 40" from perch to perch.

The 14BFF is 54" from backing plate to backing plate. Is a disc brake kit going to go on this, and is it too narrow?

Anything I need to know, or get, to make these axles go in?

I know there has to be some threads on this, just can't seem to find them

The disk brake conversion should not change youre wheel width.

The end product should end up being wider than youre stock 1/2 ton width.

You should come over to the 4x4 section. We don't get alot of traffic over there and youre post wont get lost so easy.

Edit: I thought this post was in the 67-72truck thread, I didn't realize it was in the blazer thread.
I almost think the Blazer forum and 4x4 forum should be the same but that would eliminate the 2 wheel drive Blazer guys.

Direct bolt in for both.

Doing the same with mine currently.

I have the same axles as you do, tons from an 86 CUCV.
Look em over good, mine were worked hard and put away wet.

Thanks! Can't wait to start working on it again. It's been in my brother in-law's body shop for (seems like a year).

I guess my next step is to get them cleaned up and start ordering some brake parts. The glove box tag says code GT5 rear axle 4.10 ratio

Don't forget about the rear shock mounts, both have to be relocated. Other than that they are both a direct bolt in.
