1971 C60 For Sale (Not Mine)

I saw this sitting on the side of the road about 5 mi East of Lubbock, TX and thought I'd pass along an interesting truck for sale.

It's a 1971 gold C60 semi-truck tractor with a 427 ci engine.
5 Speed transmission with 2 speed axle.
Tandem rear axles with fifth wheel.
And air breaks.

There is rust on the trailing edge of each front fender flare. The drivers door has a dent and what ever got the door dented the cab post right behind it puncturing a hole through it but the door still shuts well. The rest of the exterior is in pretty good shape, no other major rust or dents. The hood emblem has a nice chrome bow tie and there are good looking chrome 427 emblems on the sides.

I looked under the hood where everything appears original.
In the cab it has the original upolstery which looks great except for one tear that messess it up. It has a factory tach and the original AM radio. It's missing the interior door and window handles but the doors and arm rests look decent.

I forgot to look at the mileage.

The sign on the dash says $1950 or best offer. 806-392-4434

I know everyone is going to want pics but I was driving home about 25 mi away when I spotted it. If I get back by sometime I'll take a camera.

That and a car hauler trailer would make a sweet way for those with multiple trucks to take a few to a show.

Re: 1971 C60 For Sale (Not Mine)

I stopped by on my way to Lubbock today and snapped a few photos.

Judging from the Texas Farm Truck license plate, I'd say this truck was last used (probably for much of it's life) to haul cattle.

This is an '80 model bobtail for sale next to the '71.

TANDEM!! Man,that thing is KING!I always loved the big trucks.Take that thing and put all the Cheyenne Super stuff on it and some tasteful trucker accessories. It already is totp of the line trim with Custom Comfort package.I have a steel visor for these trucks that would look awesome on there.

Re: 1971 C60 For Sale (Not Mine)

They are a long stroke motor known as a tall deck, made for heavy trucks.

Re: 1971 C60 For Sale (Not Mine)

Stroke is the same, but have a different piston to make up for the tall deck. Most have an additional piston ring for better sealing.

You'd be better off buying a 454 to swap into something else. But cool truck! I'd like to find one of those cheap locally.

It could be an OMEN. Like Special-K said "That thing is King."

I'd love to have that C60 just to have it but all my $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ goes to Old Yeller. As it turns out, my dad even stopped to look at it trying to figure out how he could justify buying it. He talked to the owner who said it runs just fine. I zoomed in on the tag and noticed the last time it was registered was '94 so it's been sitting for a while.

He might still use it around the farm.

Nice piece of trucking history. The metallic light gold ( I believe last year for that color) white tutone really looks sharp. It probably has a tag rear axle instead of a full dual drive. Has cast spoke wheels, the disc wheels were probably an option.

That could certainly be true. But even so it would have sat unused a lot. All things considered it's in pretty good shape one way or the other.

You are correct. Only the front axle is driven.

Didn`t the Clark-type wheels come with heavier axles?

Wheel type was always a preference regardless of the weight rating on large trucks. West Coast trucks most often seen with Budd type disc wheels and East Coast trucks most often had the Dayton type cast spoke wheel. Being on the West Coast I am partial to disc wheels. There is a design difference between the lighter duty disc and cast wheels compared the the heavy duty disc and cast wheels.

Oh ok,I`ve lived on both coasts but it always seemed the lighter trucks had the Budd-type and heavier with the Clark-type.The western trucks ran Alcoas years before back east. So,that`s what I remember most about western trucks.
