Thorbecke Bros. vs AirRide A-arms,... they have arrived!

Well Christmas came early for me and member "hot trux".
We both recieved our new Thorbecke Brothers (SD) upper and lower a-arms TODAY!
We also got the new upper shock mounts and front shocks from Jason at www.*****************. (Call them,... because I don't thinkk they are on the website yet)
Mine came powdercoated black and Jeff's (hot trux) came bare so he could paint them Viper red to match his truck. Jeff's freshly assemble front suspension is getting blown back apart to install these beauties.
Anyway,... here's some side-by-side pics with my ART arms that I have for my '86 swb.
The Thorbecke arms are way too nice for my crusty old blazer,... but that's where they are going.
These are a HIGH quality alternative to ART's arms. They come with the option of powdercoating in a large selection of colors and are SUPER beefy. They also come complete with your correct year of balljoints already installed.

That seems a little harsh. The SD's do look beefy, but I don't see anything wrong with the ARTS. I mean we aren't talking about Chassis Tech here.

Re: Thorbecke Bros. vs AirRide A-arms,... they have arrived!

I have a question that is out of pure curiosity...

Do the Thorbeckes' have steering bump stops on them?

If they don't and when you do get them mounted, I am very interested in how that works out. I don't know too aweful much about how the steering works out. I would like to know if the steering eventually binds up or goes beyond where it should.

Oh, by the way they do look like very well built control arms.

Re: Thorbecke Bros. vs AirRide A-arms,... they have arrived!

Those new arms look great. IVe ran suicidedoor control arms for almost a full year on my daily s10. It was the first part i didnt have to "make" fit lol. I love them, and it looks like those c10 arms are of equal quality. It also helps my arms are metal flake candy orange, that makes everything better

[QUOTE=AJohn6;3046071]I have a question that is out of pure curiosity...

Do the Thorbeckes' have steering bump stops on them?

The Thorbecke arms do not have steering stops. I for one run them when I modify a set of stock lowers. (I remove the metal stand for the bumpstop and leave just the steering stop)
BUT,... I know alot of people that trim off the ENTIRE metal bumpstop bracket AND steering stop. SO,.. I' don't know how important it is or if it matters if it's removed on a bagged truck.

I agree with N2TRUX,... the ART arms are also a super nice piece. I think the new "price increases" for ART are going to put them out of the "control arm" business!
That will make the Thorbecke arms cheaper/equal quality alternative.

I heard msrp on a set of ART upper and lowers was going to be $1300.

Here's a link to Jasons pricing: $899 bare metal (or $75 more for your choice of powdercoating color.)

I've seen the ART uppers and lowers on ebay for right around $900-$1000 for a set. So yeah retail pricing they are higher, but if you shop around you should be able to find them for about the same price.

The older versions of the Dropmember (billet block clamp style, or the u-bolt clamp style) should have no fitment issues with the Thorbecke arms. Now on the "new" design... The DropmmberV3, there may be some issues. If a 73-87factory lower control arm shaft will fit into the poly bushings that come with the Thorbecke arms then YES. If a factory lower control arm shaft will NOT fit then the answer is NO. I do not see any issues with fitment problems on the uppers. If you're running a DropmemberV3 then you have three choices: factory 73-87 lower control arms, ART lower control arms... you can guess the third option, but I haven't finished all the testing so you will all have to wait until the end of January .

I agree with the previous statement in regards to the pricing on the ART arms... they are quality pieces, but the price increase will cause the influx of more competition.

Guessing he is hinting at the KP Components upper and lower a-arms I just saw in a Magazine the other day. Was wondering why I havent seen anything about them mentioned on this board.
