4l60e transmission/ shifter
I have a 6.0 lsx engine with a 4l60e transmission in a 71 manual truck. Right now it has a hurst floor shifter but I would love to move it to the steering colum to free up the floor space and look more original. Thanks for any sugestions.

Re: 4l60e transmission/ shifter
JUst out of curiosity, which floor shifter do you have [model number/name]? I am swapping in a 4L60E at some point and want it to be floor shifted.

Re: 4l60e transmission/ shifter
My burb was also an original 4 speed. I bought an auto column out of a 72' and bolted it in. Looks perfectly original. I run a straight rod down to the shift arm on the tranny, but you can also use the cable set-up. Is that the kind of info you're looking for?

Re: 4l60e transmission/ shifter
as long as we're suggesting things for YOUR truck, I'd like to suggest a retrotec or a shrifter... and make it look decent with a classic steering wheel.

Re: 4l60e transmission/ shifter
Not to hijack your thread. Just another question concerning the swap. How do you get around the detent for the OD. With the standard 3 speed auto column.

Re: 4l60e transmission/ shifter
I use the standard PRND21 and it works fine. D is Drive and the other 3 actually don't line up, but I don't mind. I have the regular tilt column from a 72 along with the factory linkage and a 4L60E.

Re: 4l60e transmission/ shifter
hhhmm cool idea where do i get one of these paddle shifters?? i have an 700r4 and was going to go with a manual column to avoid the frustrations of rebuilding my auto tilt column. are these shifters expensive?

Re: 4l60e transmission/ shifter
Find an auto column, get a Lokar universal trans linkage, and then get an overdrive indicator lense from truckandcarshop.com (I'm sure other vendors have it as well).
Works perfect.
