To cut or to wait?

I have been looking for a 67-68 swb 2wd for a couple months, and believe it or not, they are kind of hard to find. Should i hold out till i find what i want, or cut down a lwb. I dont think if i wait i will find a swb bed in excellent shape, so would all aftermarket bed metal and a shortened frame be a viable option? Either way i intend to modify the rear suspension. Has anyone on the Forums done this before?, I know it has been done but, i would appreciate any input/opinions.

I think you should wait it out and search ALL for sale sites.

There of lots of people who cut down the LWB models. Thats what I did on mine, but came across a swb frame during the process. Frame swaps are a ton of work, and so is a frame cut. I'm enjoying my swb frame now, but I can't get a hold of a smaller bed to save my life!

Has anyone ever built a bed entirely of aftermarket sheetmetal? If so how was the end result, and was it worth the money?

I say chop the frame and buy the box!!! It may be kinda pricey(I'm sure it's cheaper there than here though!), but just think-no little dents in the floor, no surface rust creeping out of a seam in 4 mos,but, if you're like me you may not want to use the bed once it's nice.

IIRC a new aftermarket bed runs about $2700 or so depending on whether you want wood or steel and other options.The cost of finishing the wood and other factors may vary.I would think you could find a decent bed in AZ for less if you look.It's really not that far to drive.You may even find a buyer for your old bed to offset cost.(I may be a little low on the price,it's been a while since I've checked pricing).

I depends. If you run across a nice long bed truck for a decent price and can find a swb bed at a really good price then go for it. Either one, a frame swap or chopping down the lwb truck will be alot of work.

There is a 67 lwb on ebay right now for 2000 in vegas I think may be a good canidate. I really don't want to purchase a completed truck because, like others, I have my own ideas on what I want the end result to look like.

If you are looking to buy, and it sounds like you are, then I would wait. Even if you have to drive a little to get it it's gonna be worth it. You should be able to find a decent SWB truck for $2k or under depending on the condition. By the time you get a LWB cut down you'll have a heck of lot more in it than what you could have bought a SWB for.

or you could find a swb 69-72 and change the front clip to a 67-68
