questions about new look for my rig

hey guys
here is my '78

obviously shes getting a new box which means paint.

Color is staying the same but i dont know weather or not to keep the trim.
i was thinking of maybe turfing it and getting some chrome wheel well accents.....

also; my truck is a double tank, and the new box is only made for a single so i either put a tank door on the other side, or take the gas caps off of the old box and keep the addidional chrome.

what do you guys think?

Re: questions about new look for my rig

I personally like the trim on the 73-79,s . Think it really sets these years apart from the others. Im old school in a lot of ways MY VOTE WOULD BE TO KEEP THE TRIM . tRUCK LOOKS GOOD WITH A LOT OF POTENTIAL . GOOD LUCK

Re: questions about new look for my rig

I would keep the trim. IT looks classic and finishes the truck off. I am not a fan of the chrome lip over the wheel openings but the factory lip with the black strip looks good. Maybe get someone to photo shop it for you and see if YOU like it without.

Nice truck you got there....

Keep the trim! Now, if that were an 81-87 truck, I'd say take the trim off. There is something about the trim on 73-80 trucks that really sets them apart!

Re: questions about new look for my rig

you could take the trim off, but keep it, and then in a few years put it back on and BAM its a brand new look and in a few years take it off again...

Re: questions about new look for my rig

The trim and the round headlights are what really separates these trucks from the later 81-87s in my opinion. It's a classic look! Like these other guys have said, I'd definately keep the trim! ...Joe

Another vote for keeping the trim. It's one of the things that makes these trucks unique.

I really like the trim on these trucks, but I hate the clip holes that let in
the water, that started the rust, that makes the holes.....

Re: questions about new look for my rig

I like the classic look with, but it would look clean without. As far as the gas tank is concerned... I didnt see why you are swapping beds. If they are both the same length you could swap the sides out that you need the gas cap on, if the stock bedside is still good.

Looks like you need the gas cap on the passenger side and from the pic the passenger side of the stock bed looks clean.

Re: questions about new look for my rig

bed support rails on the underside are cooked, as well as wheel wells and the bed of the box

there isn't much left of er' (the sides are the best part)

I would just swap on the side then to get the gas cap. You are going to repaint it anyways.

I like it with the trim. If you're never going to take long trips in the truck, ditch the dual tanks, keep em if you do, they're nice.
