Shift indicator adjustment...
Okay, so to keep my sanity, I read through Richard8971 build thread "'67 step-side replacement rear bumper" for some inspiration. I saw that he too struggled with putting everything back together and yet, he kept plugging away. I am so close that it is killing me....
I told my daughter last night that I hate this truck.... To my question....I am having trouble getting the shift indicator to line up with Park. There is no slack in the shift arm to make up for this. I have included photos to help. I loosened everything and aligned the indicator....however, once I did that the hole "for the screw circled in yellow" can no longer be aligned. I also tried twisting the entire column a tad with no luck. This is not a show stopper, but it is nonetheless frustrating as hell. Thanks PS I also included a quick shot of my finished bed wood because I know you all like pictures. |

Re: Shift indicator adjustment...
Sounds like a linkage adjustment, more that a column adjustment, but I have yet to do mine yet. But you do have play adjustments/stops in the linage, that may make the pointer more accurate.

Re: Shift indicator adjustment...
It is a linkage adjustment. I used Kugel Komponents linkage which I have heard is similar to Lokar. I have seen some people complain about the Lokar, but I have Zero complaints with my setup. It makes lining up your indicator easy. You can adjust your gear throws to make it line up even if you have an overdrive transmission ( I have a 700 R4)

Re: Shift indicator adjustment...
In order to get it to line up, I unscrewed the bolt in yellow and rotated that assembly to the left if facing the truck. The issue is, there is no longer a hole to bolt that piece in place. Hope this helps clear up the issue.

Re: Shift indicator adjustment...
Leave the bolt you messed with alone, instead adjust with the linkage connector on the shift arm located at the top of your picture. loosen the nut and have someone sit in seat and wiggle shifter until it is where you want it an then tighten the linkage bolt back. This should align your pointer and you can stop hating your truck, or at least find something else to hate about it

Re: Shift indicator adjustment...
Is the pointer still beyond the lens or is it close? These are notoriously sloppy in this area, can you at least get it lined up with the "P"? This may be the best that it gets. Is the lens/cover a repop? Have you had the linkage out of the truck with a motor replace? I ask because after looking at the pic you posted the linkage from column to trans is on the firewall side of the lever, all that i have had were on the core support side. Try taking the linkage bolt loose and putting it on the other side and see if this helps line things up any better. (the nut should be pointing towards the firewall).
