Small update on the '71
-
I haven't posted anything on any of the trucks lately but I have been working on the '71 4x4. I had to replace the in cab tank and sending unit because it sat so long with fuel and water in it. I also had to put a kit in the carb for the same reason. I finally got the engine started. The story on that is that it was rebuilt in 1995 (I have the receipts) and the builder ran the engine long enough at that time to break in the cam and it hadn't been started since. I took the plugs out and squirted PB Blaster in all of the cylinders and let it set for a while then squirted quite a bit of motor oil in each one. Let it set for a day or so and turned it over with the plugs out until I had oil pressure on the gauge. Put a new set of plugs in it and after turning over a few times it fired up. Had a small amount of smoke and mouse nests out of the tail pipes but after burning out the PB Blaster & oil it cleared right up. It sounds really good. I am replacing the aftermarket front fenders with a nice original set I had, so I sandblasted those and a set of hood hinges today. I have a small patch to weld inside and outside on the bottom of one fender and the truck will be ready to paint. I ordered most of the parts I needed to put it together and I should be able to pick those up the first of the week. Sorry this is so long…. LockDoc

Re: Small update on the '71
Leon, that thing is coming right along. Are you going to keep the orange color that was painted on the cab when you got it?
Any word on the other '71?

Nate, Yes, the same color will be used. It is actually '79 Corvette red (or so the PO told me). I am seriously thinking about a red/white combo paint job. I'm not sure which other truck you mean. I guess I've looked at too many of them. If you are talking about the SWB fleet that is just down the road from me he hasn't got it uncovered yet. You need to come up and look at that one, you may be interested in it..... I think it would be right up your alley. I think I'll push him a little and see if I can get some pics. LockDoc
