What are factory truck am/fm prices these days?$200+/- on up to $300-400,right?Seems like so much money.But,not so bad when you consider the "original" price.I`m talking about the cost of the option.That`s money added to what is already a large purchase.As in an option always costs less than buying that item outright.So,back in`71 the am/fm option was $151.75,a little more than double the $69.95 that an am would run ya.

Thats a bargain at todays prices but that was quite a bit of money back then. Heres a few other option prices from 71 that were a little easier on the check book.
Tilt wheel 57.95
Manual throttle control 14.75
Tach 57.95
Front tow hooks 19.00
Auxilary battery 47.40

Dang, that was alot of money back them. No wonder they are sort of few and far between now.

I'll bet to upgrade from 307 to a 350 or a 402 was not much more than the price of an AM/FM, maybe double????

Don`t forget,most of the FM stations we listen to today weren`t on the air waves back then.Most staions were am.

350 option was $44.25,not $44.00.Just think how many quarters they collected off the 350 option.The 400 cost $173.80.Hmmm...big block or FM,big block/fm...I`ll splurge on the big motor and just wait for satelite radio and MP3s to catch on.

I ain`t payin`no $19 extry just to have a hook to yank me out.The dang tow truck only charges $5 and I ain`t getting stuck no more than 4 times!!

On the auxilary battery option,don`t forget that includes a new battery and harness

Daggone tachs ran $59.20 and you had to spend the $12.95 on gauges!!

Looks like the manufacturers were learning about "packages".....imagine that you had to buy the gauges in order to be able to have the tach. What WERE they thinking?

I hear ya.Even though there was charge for a hood,you had to buy a whole truck to get one.

Soooooooooooo after looking at the cost of these options...no wonder a fully optioned BB truck was rare a bird and the fullly loaded 4x4 was even more rare. Although it looks like there were more fully optioned trucks in 72 than 71 and 71 than 70 and so forth. If I remember right one term that is used for our trucks that were built between 67-72 the Custom Sport ruck era because now one could order car like options to make their truck a nice cruiser which was never an option such as cruise, tilt, am/fm, and ac before these trucks.

GM called them "The New Breed".I can see where the Custom Sport Truck era comes rom since that model began in`67 and ran through,although the named changed to Cheyenne,it was still Custom Sport Truck equipped.
