Re: Cowl induction hood ?....

Once I pull the motor I'm going to run the numbers myself. The only reason I have the casting number to it is because there was a rebuild tag in with some other receipts in the car. Basically the only info it had on it was casting no#, new bore size, and compression ratio. The PO doesn't know much about cars at all but after talking to him when I got the car I'm pretty sure that is what is in it.

Casting # 3858174 is the correct casting # for 1964-1967 327 block but, does not necessarily mean that it would be a #'s correct block for your vehicle. The date code on the block would have to pre-date the build date on your truck a maximum of 90 days. Also I know that on the Autos Chevrolet started stamping the Vin# in front of the Suffix code in 1962. I don't know if that is the case with the trucks or not. Only 1962 and after would a block with the Vin # stamped on it matching the Vin # on the vehicle be considered #'s matching block. This is also true for the transmission. The rear end, water pump, heads, intake, exhaust manifolds and, carburetor all would have to pre-date or be the same date as the block. Prior to 1962 all vehicles with the correct date codes and #'s are considered #'s correct as the Vin# was not stamped on the block or transmission.
