'86 emissions rats nest
I have been browsing through some of the engine pics on here of the '86 and newer trucks, and I must be missing something.
I am not seeing the rats nest of vaccum hoses like I have on mine. How much of this junk can I do away with? I do not have emission testing where I live, but will they visually check for this? Most of the hoses seem to originate at the vapor canister, how will removing this effect my engine performance? I know this is probably a complicated issue, but I would really like to clean up my engine bay.

Took most of that stuff off mine and with a little fine tuning it ran fine.

I have an '86, and the emission stuff is a nightmare. Mine is all messed up. Some of the stuff is missing, and what is there appears to be hooked up wrong.
We are supposed to start emission testing here in San Antonio in the next 1 to 3 years, so I leave it all there.  Slonaker |

One thing I found out about these trucks is not how many vacuum lines they have, but how they are routed. I took all the lines off the canister and bundled them together with zip ties then ran them up by the coiled brake lines then over the valve cover and branched them out. This cleaned up the engine alot and makes it easier to track them down. The vacuum lines are longer then they need to be and that is one reason it looks like such a mess (atleast thats how it was on mine).
I would suggest posting pictures of your engine and letting us give you some ideas on what to remove and what to keep.

I also live in a sniff county and they were eay to pass that but the dyno is the tough part. I always go to the place I'll get tested and ask the guy to see if I need anything for visual to pass before I even get them to start paperwork.
