The 6 month restore...

About 6 months ago I decided to replace the totally rusted out cab on my daily driver. The roof had rotted away.. and the floors had rotted away again since i replaced them back in the early 90s. So I figured it was time for a whole cab. I'd been searching for a cab for a couple years, then actually spotted one for sale, cheap, and local(longview). So I picked it up and stored it until I couldnt stand the water pouring in on me anymore lol. This ended up being alot more work then I originally expected. Being a daily, I figured I'd just swap cabs, give it a quick spray of paint and get back on the road. But you know how these things grow. Once the paint is fresh then everything else looks like hell. So you end up cleaning/painting/polishing or replacing everything. I'm still not quite done yet. The bumpers and wheels need polishing, and my carpet won't arrive til sometime this week. But I finally got it out of the barn and out in the sunshine. Just drove into the gas station and burger joint. Been getting lots of attention. A biker group did a rubber neck and even started honkin lol. This started as a 1970 btw. It's still 6 lug but with discs. I'm just about to turn over 520k miles. Of course the only original parts left are the frame rails! Here's a few pics.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Bunch of little things fallin apart from sittin for months. Went to adjust mirror.. fell off. Everything frosty so crank up heat, fuse blew soon as I hit the highway. Washer pump quit.. etc. lol. Still nice to drive the old thing again.

Re: The 6 month restore...

Couple of old timey pics to show where the trucks been.

After it's first total. My brother and a cop had a little meeting. Cop was spotlighting and on the wrong side of the road, brother was drinking underage. Both at fault, everybody just stayed quiet. If you look close theres a DARE sticker where the cop met truck. lol

Here's the second time it was totalled. This time it went off a dike, buried to top of hood, cast iron intake in back of truck flew through back window smashing dash in. 3 guys in truck.. very lucky they werent brained.

One of when my brother first bought it..

And after the last restoration, circa 2000 or so..
