Dad's Buddy bucket reupholstery help
My dad has a set of buddy bucket seats that are in great shape. We are going to have them reupholstered. He is having a hard time deciding what he wants. It will be in a 68 SWB Chevy. It will be a hot rod but we both like the original feel.
Please post up pictures of your favorite seats. There was a very nice 72 Chevy that had buddy buckets and a 72 style hounds tooth interior on the board a while back, I can't find it does anyone have that one especially.

Re: Dad's Buddy bucket reupholstery help
What's the history of buddy buckets?
My 63 had buddy buckets in it when I bought it. The PO told me they were from a full size Chevy pickup, but he didn't know what year. But, then my upholstery guy told me that they weren't GM at all, they were sold by JC Whitney years ago. I looked in JC Whitney's catalog and they have several bench seats, but I didn't see these. (discontinued?) Where'd these things originate? Anybody know the straight scoop?

Re: Dad's Buddy bucket reupholstery help
first of all... these are what we are talking about;
not these; Buddy buckets are the ones with the attached console that doubles as a seat, that doubles as an arm rest. All the ones posted with a hard plastic console... thoseare just buckets and not what we are talking about here. JC Whitney may have sold something like this, but so did GM. I don't know if they came in the 60 - 66 trucks or not, but in 67 and 68 they are optional in c/k 10 - 30 series truck. Dodge had one that was VERY close, and to the untrained eye, they are the same. So your 63 may have chevy ones, and your upholstery guy is not familiar... or maybe you have dodge ones... or maybe you do have aftermarket ones. No tellin |

Re: Dad's Buddy bucket reupholstery help
thanks Andy, yea the top ones are the same as mine. It could be Chevy, one thing... the bolt holes line up perfect with the factory nuts. I kinda believed him about JC Whitney because to me the frame just kinda looks "cheap." And, unless there's something missing on mine, my center armrest/seat back doesn't have an actual stop. It stops when it hits the gas tank. And, my seat backs on the buckets don't fold down or adjust.
