Re: Weird leak

My c-20 had the headliner area kind of damp and surface rust because the po had a cb and the antenna was mounted on the roof. when I removed it it had a nasty hole with hammer marks to make the antenna fit. Its probly not the same but my parts truck cab had rust in the area youre describing. It seemed that the drip rail seam was the culprit. It was kinda ugly.

Re: Weird leak

Very common problem on these trucks. The sealant cracks from age and water seeps under it. Since it's unseen, it works it's magic like a cancer. By the time you notice it (unless the previous owners were diligent) it's too late. Rust has already started...

Problem is, there's no repair panel for the topside.

Re: Weird leak

Actually, the header panel is available. You need to stop the source in the drip rail.

Is the that the piece for the top front inside the cab? I've seen those but I was referring to topside. I don't think they're making panels for the top yet. At least I haven't seen them.

Re: Weird leak

i had it about as bad as it can get, best to take care of it right now before it gets much much worse, the more water that leaks into that area the more other parts are going to get rusted out

here is how it looked before, it was horrid, 2 pieces after knocking out the rust, the paint was holding it together

here is how i patched it after cutting away the rest

Re: Weird leak

since everyone said get that rust out so it wont eat through Ill spray rust converter on it or get the bottle and pour the entire bottle in it or let a body man go ahead and work on it before it gets bad. like work on the top area of the cab and back glass with new seals

Re: Weird leak

I heard at the rumor mill that outer roof skins is/will be availible.

Still holding on to a bad ' 68 cab with a good roof though.

I'll be damn if I don't have an ounce of rust but both front corners of my '70 roof is dented big time...

Re: Weird leak

Yeah Travis, get the outside tight and the rest will be ok.Condensation will be your only enemy, then.I`d spray converter to get all you can covered.Remove the visors and mirror.Soak some PB blaster first so the screws will back out ok and not take more metal with it.I`d put some other holes in there to spray a better area.Maybe some holes in the top, too. You can always plug the holes and install a headliner.

They are available and I think its southern kentucky classic parts and you have to call them cause they don't have it on their website.

Re: Weird leak

OK, what would be a good route to go find a rust free cab that is like mine with the stock clearance lamps or fix that dag gone leak it only reminds to get it fixed only when it rains. Repair the retarded rust or get a better cab? I was thinking on the 72 GMC only for the front end and now patch panels the one I told y'all bout a few months ago. What route would y'all go fix my cab since it isn't eat through or find a better one. Which is going to be harder to find than a needle in a haystack

Re: Weird leak

Since you have clearance lights that could be a cause of the leaks also.

Not sure about your area, but over here not too many body shops want to spend the time and effort to do body work. They mostly specialize in newer remove and replace panels.

Since our trucks are 30+ years old, you have to find a restoration shop and the cost goes up exponentially to the desirability of the vehicle. At least it's what it seemed like to me.
