Need suggestions on wheels/tires

I've got some f'ugly wheels on the truck as well as two rear tires with slow leaks.

You can see it here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=806

These tires are pretty wide (not sure off-hand how wide).

What I want to do is go with a classic original look with perhaps taller tires that aren't as wide? (Sorry, I am really a noob with these trucks - ask me about motorcycle tires and I can talk for days).

So anyone have any suggestions (with pics if possible) of a good set up? 99.9% of my driving is city driving. Some of it is hauling motorcycles in the bed. I don't need off-road tires but tires that are good in the rain help.

it has 5-lug wheels still.

Thanks

Re: Need suggestions on wheels/tires

I would go 15x10 w/275-60R15.

If I were buying new I would get these from ebay, they are a really good deal

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/15X4-...QQcmdZViewItem

I put 15x10 Centerline Convo-Champ 500's on mine w/275 60R15 BFG's.

Re: Need suggestions on wheels/tires

to me, there is nothing better looking on these trucks than a set of 275/60/15s on a set of 15x8 rallies and 3 in chrome trim rings.

Re: Need suggestions on wheels/tires

Nice truck. A 15x8 steel rim running something like a 275/60x15, either painted or chromed, in a rally style or a smoothie with caps and rings is hard to beat.

Re: Need suggestions on wheels/tires

I gonna 3 rd on the 15x8's w/ the 275/60x15....but also throw out the 255/60's b/c the 275's like to float in a heavy rain. 255's have a little less tread width

Re: Need suggestions on wheels/tires

Since the OP said he wants to go with a taller, not as wide tire the 275/60 is out. The original equipment base tire size would have been about a 235/75/15. Most likely a G series tire, G78/15 back in the day. The 235/75 is about as close to this as any. It will mount up on an 8" rim just fine and I have ran them for many miles. If it's not wide enough then the 255/70/15 is just as tall and a little wider. Fits well on 7 or 8" rim.

Re: Need suggestions on wheels/tires

My truck is running 15x8 Corvette style rallys with 235/75/R15. I think the back spacing is 4.5". It may be 4" I can't remember.

These are the tire sizes on my truck now (verified this morning). What is "back spacing"? I do not know the rim sizes, just the tire sizes are 235/75/R15

Re: Need suggestions on wheels/tires

Back spacing is measured from where the wheel mounts on the spindle/drum to the back edge of the rim.

The more back spacing you have, the more the wheel will be "sucked into" the fender, less back spacing pushes the wheel out towards the edge of the fender well.

Here's a couple quick "google" pics I found:

Re: Need suggestions on wheels/tires

On a 15x8 wheel, 245-60's look and fit better. I run them on the front of mine with 15x10's out back running the 275-60's. It's sort of a big'n'little combo, that still works for me.

Can't go wrong with some 5-slot ralley's with 275 x 50-15's in back and some 245x60-15's in front. Wide Whites of course.

HEY HEY HEY!!! Don't be dissing on the KMC/Optima Quasars!

I totally agree with you now, but in 1991 that was a HOT wheel. I bought a set for my Z28, and they were cooler than ice water back then! Here's a pic taken around 1992 after I repainted it with the Quasars a'shinin'!

My how things have changed!

A second Rallys for a clean look. Here's my '69 with a 8" Rallys and 235/75R15's before I lowered it.
