'72 'Burb w/Overhead AC Unit and No AC?

Why does this truck have an overhead AC unit but no AC (eBay item 320336979626)?

67 - 71 was like that. No in dash A/C, just an overhead unit. The compresor is gone, and most of the overhead unit it's self is missing.

Interesting! The controls must also have been in the overhead unit?

It looks to me that the vin#s on the spid label are 1971 #s. It seems to me that at least the glovebox door has been replaced with a 1971, and the air conditioning is possibly form the same doner vehicle, with the installation never completed.

Didn't they have 2 different AC units that were installed in the burb?

Re: '72 'Burb w/Overhead AC Unit and No AC?

I believe there's one compressor up front and the rear lines 'T' into it. The rear unit has its own heat sink and fan. The controls were on the dash to turn it on... and I believe the rear overhead unit had an adjustment knob.

Re: '72 'Burb w/Overhead AC Unit and No AC?

that's a 71 burb, not a 72.
The 67 - 71 burbs were like that.
in 72, they came with in dash A/C like a pick up, and then an added unit in back overhead that was controlled by a rotary knob under the headlight switch.
Other than the underhood stuff missing, and most of the overhead tunnel not being installed, it is actually correct.

Re: '72 'Burb w/Overhead AC Unit and No AC?

I have seen Burbs with three different configurations... Roof air.. which is the one on Ebay... yes the controls were in the plastic ducting running from front to rear (missing on the ebay burb)
Rear air... which only had the roof stuff in the rear.. and dual air.. which had dash air like a pickup and a rear ac unit..

Re: '72 'Burb w/Overhead AC Unit and No AC?

Now i understand mine better. 71 gmc with dash ac and the tunnel overhead. I had thought the tunnel setup might have been from a later gen burb.

Re: '72 'Burb w/Overhead AC Unit and No AC?

I could be wrong but I think dash A/C wasn't available in the Suburban until 1972. It also included a smaller roof mounted rear air system.

70-71 had the long roof mounted system.

The blue Suburban originally posted is a '71 model per the SPID not a '72 like mentioned in the thread title.
