Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
Edited!
Hey Gang, I'm faced with trying to make a deal on a truck Here's the skinny, it's a 1969 short wide with a factory big block, auto, air, tach, tilt, PS, PB. It's not an Arizona rust free truck, but its solid for Central Texas where I'm located. The roof, firewall, floors, bed and fenders are all solid. It could use rockers (not rusted out by any means but they're thin) and MAYBE one cab corner. The cab and doors are orig paint and useable. The bed, fenders and hood are from a donor and do not match the factory paint. Interior is complete but needs TLC. Dash is cut for radio - doors not cut for speakers. SPID removed Condition of the motor / trans are unknown but totally complete - as in all factory brackets, air cleaner and PS reservoir. Frame / suspension looks to be stock, supposedly the brakes were gone thru but you know how that goes. It comes with a NOS grille, repop bumpers and some other goodies. All in all it's complete. I'm looking to buy it as an investment and turn it over to someone who wants to restore it as a nicely optioned factory truck. My question to ya'll is, what would you consider paying for such a thing both via Fleabay and locally? I hate to offend the guy, but I'm not used to dealing with highly optioned trucks. Any input would be helpful. PS..... if I can't afford it, I'll gladly divulge the location and contact information of the owner. Hows that!

Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
dude, the pic is a 4 wheel drive. there were no 4 wheel drive big blocks.
oh wait i'm a little slow tonite, that pic isn't the pick up your talking about, correct? and the truck your talking about sounds like a great truck to build. If i had the cash, we would be talking. if it was do-able, i would invest a chunk of change for that truck. good luck however you decide. I don't know if hard times is prompting the sale but It seems like the recession is bringing some good stuff back on the market.

Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
I've been away from the 67-72 trucks for a long time. My 69 long bed had a factory 396 engine. Now my 72 had a factory 402 in it with the tach instrumentation.

Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
if it's a 402, then it ain't original.
With the SPID missing, how do you know it came with the big block? Honestly, IMO, if the condition of the engine and tranny are unknown.... as in, he can't start it up... and the body needs work, and the int needs work... and the SPID is missing... I don't see it as a "highly optioned truck"... it's just a truck with a wrong engine thrown in it. |

I'm pretty sure that picture is of his Blazer, not the truck he is looking to buy.
Edit: he changed the pictures

I like the idea of pricing it into parts. Though, I can say that a complete SWB with a mouse motor around here is rarely less than $2000 even in poor running condition. I sold a BB short step swap truck for 5k last Aug that had an el cheapo paint job on it, but I don't wanna paint this thing because I have other projects going. As it stands, I think my limit is about 2k for this truck since there is no documentation that its a factory BB - I believe that it is, but if I was paying what I'll ask for it when I flip it, i'd want the SPID to be there. So.. the price is down. Keep the replies coming. I'll post pics later today. Thanks everyone! -M7

Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
So, it's not as nice as I dreamed it all week, but I still consider it an optioned truck - despite Longhorn Man's comment - Tach, swb, headliner, ac, BB, ps, pb, auto, 2 tone paint, cab light, tilt included but not installed.
Assuming the title is in order, I'll offer him $1500 and see if he bites. Otherwise I don't want the distraction to my projects. I'll keep ya posted. -M7

Hmmmm, i Just noticed the dents on the VC like it has been chained up and dropped in... this might be a do it yourself kit BB.

Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
Looking at the frame towers and engine brakets I would say the 402 is a 72.The cab is a low hump so is not and original big block cab. This is a truck put together from pieces but still looks to have the makings of a decent truck. In NC it would sell quick at $2000 with the parts I see.I also see z-bar bracket on the frame so the short bed frame was originaly a straight drive.

Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
The headliner and stuff makes it a real CST truck, or at least a CST cab.
The engien is 100% not original. Its out of a 71/72truck, maybe even car... See the bracket for the throttle cable? If the air cleaner is correct, then this sticker will tell you what year it is I wonder if it is even a 69... the door panels say 70. But nothing else isoriginal on there. If he can make the engine fire, and put it in gear, then it may well be worth something. Otherwise, it's just a diamond in the rough. Looking again, it's a GMC, not a Chevy. But looking over the options installed, I'm not seeing much there. CST package (sierra in GMC talk) I see a rear bumper, the reminants of A/C, since coils were base equipment on a 69 GMC, that's not optional there... there's optional guages and a tilt thrown in along with a big block/non correct engine. That's not a very buit option list, the only thing here that makes it even semi-desirable, is that it is a short/fleet, and has a BB tossed in it. Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
The engine is a 72, look at the mounts (72 only) and more so look at the bracket for the ps pressure line- it not attached- but it is not new, motor swap. The upper alt bracket is a a 72 only model as well, but the cab is a 69-70- notice the long gas pedal. It is pieced together but as stated most of the hard parts are there, but the tell-tale part missing is the heat shield that bolts to the floor on pass. side. Many people try to make clones but they miss one important detail- the heat shield with 5/16 pan head phillips bolts that hold it in place. $2000 for the truck and part it if you want or build it int owhat you want. One other thing check the linkae for the auto trans, the 400 pivot is much different than the th350 bracket another overlooked piece. It also has the 72 nly brake booster hard line- angles to the front, the 71 version does not do this nor do the other earlier designs- just one more indicator that it is not original

Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
No its not an original truck. Its all different colors! Just kidding. Some of the guys amaze me on here. You all should be judges at car shows for these trucks. Its amazing that you can tell from the bend of brake lines, or gas peddle length, the year of a truck or item. Once again i see how little i really know about these trucks. On the other hand, I would grab this truck up and roll in it. Who cares if its several trucks together? Sure its value may not be as much, but if its for you to enjoy and have fun in, so what. Lots of potential.

Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
Hey Gang,
Well, I have to agree - thought I knew my chit about these trucks but against ya'll, just a drop in the bucket. So I purchased it today. - Gave $1500 - came with new radiator, new in the package engine bay wiring and some other goodies. My plan is to take the tach and tilt for my toy then get it running and sell it to someone looking for a nice project. It's titled as a 1969 Chevy - VIN CS149S861006 if you wanna dissect that. Thanks for all the help, I'm glad I didn't jump on it at 3k thinking it was a real factory BB. 1/2 price feels much better Let me know if you want any other pics to satisfy curiosity. Cheers, M7

I would have them fix the title when you get it in your name to reflect GMC... that's not even a chevy VIN.

Re: Value of a factory BB SWB with Tach?
Nor is it a V8 vin unless GMC used a different designation code= CS is six cylinder CE= eight cylinder. If you got it for 1500 that was a good buy especially with the parts alread with it. Good job and good luck.
