throttle linkage question for you guys
If im correct the thottle linkage in our trucks is actual linkage all the way to 71 when it went to cable linkage, I know alot of people like to convert to this later cable type. How come? whats the difference? better responce or less chance of binding?
any help would be great thanks.

Re: throttle linkage question for you guys
The cable system is safer if a mount breaks. It is less likely to jam the throttle wide open if the engine shifts.

Re: throttle linkage question for you guys
if you are swapping to an odd ball motor, or an odd ball intake (some older ones the carb sat crooked) or a smaller high rise... the cable can be easier.
I prefer the rod myself.... at leasst, till a motor mount wears out... I've had one bind up a little, just enough to almost soil myself. |

Re: throttle linkage question for you guys
Here's how I did my linkage. These spherical ends swivel and rotate to aloow more play for engine mounts and what not. These are less likely to bind than standard linkage.

Re: throttle linkage question for you guys
Just a note about converting from rod to cable, the one I did isn't a direct bolt on, the rod type bolts on the outside of firewall, the cable bolts on the inside and setup differant, a bit of a bite!! And the pics of the SWEET linkage setup are GREAT!

Re: throttle linkage question for you guys
i have the linkage. ive had a motor mount break, and the throttle hang up a little, thank goddness being out in the country, i just waited it out until the motor wasn't torqing enough, and the throttle let go on its own. and it was a strait, flat road
i never new a chevy truck would go that quick!

Re: throttle linkage question for you guys
I ordered all my linkage parts from Lokar products. This setup wasn't all that cheap, but it works great. Hot rod shops, race shops and certain swap meet vendors sell parts very similar. I chose to go with the Lokar stuff because of the finish on the materials.
The throttle return spring setup also came from Lokar. They also sell throttle cable and pedal assemblies if your serious about changing to a cable. It's kinda $pricey$ though.

Re: throttle linkage question for you guys
One other reason to convert is that the cable pedal is free floating. You don't have to cut a hole in your new carpet for the base of the old style pedal.

Re: throttle linkage question for you guys
to each his own, race cars do not use gas pedal cables, they use linkage.thier pedals also have a clevis type that allow you to use your foot to lift the pedal in the event of throttle bind that is usually due to not using a possitive throttle stop.cables can also frey and cable liners can melt and either of these could be disasterous.if you want my cable from my 72' it's yours.
